Job description

Responsibilities:

This position is an in-house Counsel position that will assist in advancing the important business objectives, interests and image of the company through various employee benefit and litigation activities.

The position will be primarily responsible for:

  • Advising Human Resources associates on issues and risks related to the design and administration of various employee benefits programs (including health, dental, life, 401(k), FMLA/STD, ADA, and other related benefits programs); wage and hour laws; Workers Comp; executive and equity-based compensation, and general employment law.
  • Providing pre-litigation and litigation support on benefits and associate relations issues, including assisting and managing complex cases and recommending the best course of action with regard to those cases in conjunction with outside counsel.
  • Identifying business and legal risks and working with the business to provide solutions that balance legal issues and business objectives. The ideal candidate also will have general litigation and/or health care law experience, benefits-related subject matter expertise and an ability to develop an understanding of the business and operational goals of assigned internal clients, proactively advise business partners on a wide variety of matters, and work collaboratively with other attorneys on matters related to legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Operating with a high degree of integrity, in alignment with company mission and culture.

Education/Experience:
  • JD license to practice law in at least one state.
  • 10 years of experience in the legal field. Four of those years must include recent employee benefits experience, including experience with pre-litigation disputes, arbitrations and mediation.
  • Experience managing outside counsel preferred.
  • Legal project management and facilitation skills.
  • Strong ability to provide risk assessment/risk mitigation support and strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, provide leadership, influence organization behavior and create alignment across organizational lines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the personal presence, credibility, and the professional demeanor necessary to interact with company management, regulatory bodies, and business units with persuasiveness and confidence.
  • Collaborative team player with an ability to effectively manage competing priorities.
  • Ready, willing and able to assist with new needs and comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity.
  • Excellent judgment and the ability to prioritize and make difficult decisions quickly.

NOTE: Due to COVID-19, Associates are presently working remotely. When Associates are transitioned back to the office, the functions of this position will be performed onsite at our offices located at 3805 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, 19073.
