Overview
We are seeking an Associate Scientist II/III for one of our clients, a genomics company in Wayne, PA that offers a wide range of innovative next generation sequencing (NGS)-based solutions to the biotech and biopharma industries with a goal to assure the safety and rapid commercialization of biologics. With a focus on rapidly advancing cell and gene therapies and viral vaccine safety, and to further expand their capabilities and strengthen their strategic partnership with Charles Rivers Laboratories, our client has recently established a state-of-the-art US subsidiary lab in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. We are currently looking to hire experienced Associate Scientists (II/III+) with strong Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) experience to support our growing US-based activities.
Responsibilities
This is a lab-based position requiring proven knowledge and expertise in the use and application of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies and methodologies. We are specifically looking for candidates with extensive hands-on molecular biology experience to help us build a new US laboratory utilizing state-of-the-art technologies. Experience with NGS in a regulated environment and/or in the biosafety testing space is a definite advantage.
- Utilize molecular-biology skills and experience to execute custom NGS-based workflows to meet our customer's needs. This includes adventitious agent detection and genetic characterization using NGS as a primary tool.
- Perform and document test procedures with accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in accordance with all laboratories standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulations (cGMP/GLP). Candidates with working knowledge of GMP/GLP requirements are highly desired.
- Perform quality control (QC)-related tasks associated with sequencing operations
- Operate and maintain equipment specific to NGS-related workflows, including automation
- Draft/revise SOPs, laboratory records and other related documentation
- ldentify areas for process improvement. Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard laboratory techniques, improve protocols, processes, and equipment. Candidates with a knack for troubleshooting and problem solving are highly encouraged to apply.
- Support general laboratory operations including equipment and inventory management, and a wide range of laboratory tasks
- Contribute to special projects requiring a significant level of oversight and/or independence
- Contribute to ongoing process improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- A bachelor's in biology or a related scientific field with a minimum of 3 years of experience, Those with MA/MS in a scientific field are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong basic laboratory and molecular biology skills and knowledge, with solid working experience with PCR and NGS-related techniques and instrumentation
- Working knowledge of current Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) & Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Ability to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment both independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated working knowledge of/compliance to laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices
- Proven proficiency with molecular biology-related practices, techniques, equipment including automation, materials, and mathematical calculations, specifically those related to NGS-based workflows. Experience with multiple NGS platforms is highly desired.

- Excellent oral and written communication, critical-thinking, time-management, and resolution-finding skills
