Job description
Summary:
Verifies records prepares/processes specimens for laboratory analysis. Provides support to the laboratory with specific daily duties. Performs CLIA waived laboratory tests on clinical specimens.
Responsibilities:
oPerform specimen processing/receiving according to established protocols.
oMaintain workstation(s).This specifically includes:
Inventory
Quality Control (for CLIA waived tests)
Basic housekeeping (discard old specimens disinfect lab stations process mail)
oAfter instruction and/or supervision perform CLIA waived laboratory tests on specimens according to established protocols contained in the procedure manual or as instructed by the Laboratory Administrative Director or designee. To include:
Mono testing
HCG (urine only)
Rapid strep
Rapid flu
Trichomonas rapid
BV rapid
oAssist in laboratory by loading unloading and storing specimens.
oActively participates in the training and orientation of new employees and/or students.
oAdhere to Coastal Medical Corporate and Coastal Medical Laboratory policies concerning dress code professional conduct attendance punctuality documentation performance criteria and other directives as issued.
oAdhere to all safety infection control and HIPAA and confidentiality policies and procedures.
oDuties may be modified to meet laboratory needs as directed by the Ancillary Services Manager.

Education and Experience
* Training/experience acceptable to the Laboratory Administrative Manager/Supervisor.
Knowledge Skills and Ability
* Ability to use technology with proficiency with HL7 interfaces and Microsoft Office applications with the capacity to work between multiple information systems including electronic health record
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with the capability to effectively communicate with employees patients providers vendors etc.
* Outstanding organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced setting
* Consistent initiative problem solving ability adaptability and flexibility
* Capacity to collaborate with colleagues and teammates as necessary to ensure quality work
* Present an authentic friendly welcoming and professional image to our clients and collaborators
* Ability to foster a cooperative work environment

Physical Effort and Dexterity
* Sit and stand for prolonged periods of time
* Work and move among all departments of Coastal Medical
* Excellent hand/eye coordination
* Lift up to [15] pounds
* Manual dexterity to operate personal computers and standard office machines and equipment as it pertains to ones position
Working Conditions
* Continuous exposure to specimens and material considered to be highly infectious and hazardous
* Moderate lifting bending and walking
* Operation of electrical equipment and instrumentation containing heating and freezing components moving parts and high-speed centrifugation
* Use and wearing of personal protective garments and equipment which may frequently be bulky hot and require special environmental and physical adaptations
Visual Acuity Hearing and Speaking
* Capability to transfer information from original source to paper computer telephone and in person
