About the Position:

Spectra Systems Corporation is a leading security technology provider for banknotes, secure documents, tax stamps, brand protection and secure on-line lottery transaction systems. Headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, Spectra has facilities in East Providence, RI and Vancouver, Canada. Spectra is publically traded on the London Stock Exchange.

Spectra is looking for an energetic chemist with organic synthesis experience to join the team. The position will be based in East Providence, Rhode Island and report to the Director, R&D. The successful candidate will be tasked with the synthesis and quality characterization of a specific material used in our products. The synthesis has an established protocol and along with characterization, will consume approximately 75% of the person's time. The balance of the time will be spent interacting with the R&D team on the development of new materials. The scope and complexity of duties requires the exercise of independent judgment, discretion, and initiative. The position requires a B.A. in chemistry from an accredited institution and is subject to a government background check. 5 years organic synthesis experience, compound characterization and Masters degree are a plus.

Requirements:

  • The candidate must be a US citizen and capable of receiving a security clearance.
  • Track record of successful development, synthesis and production of organic materials.
  • Ability to follow an established 2 or three pot organic synthesis to produce high yields and characterize the synthesized material with HPLC, optical absorption and emission, and other methods.
  • Self-motivated, strong personal work ethic and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must have an attitude of perseverance and positive outlook.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required; must possess ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to interact with tolling manufacturers to produce products on a large scale.
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to the changing needs of a face-paced small-company environment. The candidate must possess a strong sense of pride and ownership for their work and the demonstrated willingness to go the extra mile.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
