Job description
The HR Specialist is responsible for coordinating employee programs and activities; assisting with company training program planning, assisting with company policy development; assisting in design and development of employee benefits and total rewards and; providing assistance to employees in other personnel related matters.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinates TrakStar, the employee performance appraisal system; ensures appraisals are returned to Human Resources in a timely manner; tracks appraisals through approval process and calculates salary increase; sends Change of Status forms to department for discussion with employees. Enters employee appraisals and pay changes into databases; forwards related information to payroll; files and logs reviews in employee personnel files. Ensures Munis and Trakstar databases are current.
2. Completes change of status forms for promotions and transfers; processes form for approval, forwards information to payroll. Updates corresponding spreadsheets. Monitors salary increases of exempt and non-exempt employees to ensure compliance with Spartanburg Water policies.
3. Oversees Employee badging system.
4. Assists Sr. HR Specialist in equal opportunity, diversity programming and engagement development for employees. Assist with research and implementation of electronic training platform.
5. Assists with I-9 and E-Verify processes; job description maintenance and creation; New hire set up in Munis and Trakstar databases.
6. Provides assistance in implementing variety of employee programs and other special events.
7. Conducts exempt and non-exempt employee orientations and exit interviews.
8. Supports HR Manager with job description maintenance and compensation surveys.
9. Supports Sr. HR Specialist with recruitment to include job postings internally and externally; recruits applicants; screens and conducts interviews; conducts reference checks; arranges interviews with supervisors; schedules pre-employment physicals, prepares and makes job offers to applicants.
10. Handles personnel reference inquiries on former employees; verifies employment for agencies as requested; provides information relative to former employees to Employment Security Commission as requested; reviews invoices received from the Employment Security Commission and verifies accuracy. Handles submissions and responses for Unemployment claims.
11. Maintains electronic records of data relative to turnover rate, longevity, worker's compensation, benefit analysis, affirmative action plan and equal employment opportunity statistics, etc.; prepares required reports and analyses, as assigned.
12. Assist with research and implementation of new HRIS system.
13. Plans, schedules and conducts department meetings for presentations regarding benefits, programs, policies, etc.
14. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, management, psychology, or related field with a minimum of two years' experience in Human Resources, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Able to work individually and as part of a team, able to respect the importance of confidentiality and the protection of sensitive employee data. SHRM-CP and/or PHR preferred. Must have great organizational skills. Must possess driver's license.
