Sr. Director Operations Overview:
Spartanburg Regional Foundation is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Director of Operations who can passionately and successfully lead Spartanburg Regional Foundation's efforts to manage and grow foundation assets. In this role, the Director of Operations will lead the financial management functions and advise the Executive Director and Board of Directors on all matters pertaining to finance and investment. He or she will also oversee operations functions and will also be the primary liaison with audit and investment committees.
Serving as the second in command, the Senior Director of Operations will oversee financial management and reporting, the donor database, grants management functions, and related staffing. Leading a team of 4 full-time and 2 part-time members, they will foster efficiency, open communication, and teamwork in Spartanburg Regional Foundation and throughout the organization.
Operations & Continuous Improvement
- Supervise operational staff, including finance, database administration, internal and external grants, contracts, and support staff.
- Ensure operations are managed effectively and instill a continuous improvement mentality within the organization. Evaluate processes and procedures and recommend or lead changes that will impact the quality of services and operational efficiency.
- Minimize organizational risk by consistently monitoring risk management policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with Development staff in assisting with program budget development and management.
- Assist with the communications plan which includes monthly e-blasts and fundraising solicitations. Collaborate with Development staff to periodically review and adjust the communications plan.
- Assist with the Senior Services program, acting as a liaison with program partners and grantor.
- Participate in short-term and long-term strategic planning efforts, engaging with the Executive Team and the Board in determining key priorities and initiatives that will aid in accomplishing organizational goals.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Actively monitor cash flow position, investments, internal controls, policy and procedures, conformance with the funding agreements and all applicable laws, regulations and best practices.
- Responsible for financial reporting and communication to trustees, divisions, and SRHS administration. Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for the users and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Oversee preparation of annual tax return for the charitable remainder trust and the distribution of K-1.
- Assist the VP/ED and Board Treasurer in communicating financial reports at Board and committee meetings. Cultivate a culture of financial transparency by ensuring communication with the VP/ED and Board members is clear, concise, and comprehensive.
- Develop and implement internal financial controls and accounting policies and procedures; monitor for compliance.
- Oversee preparation of supportive information for the annual audit and liaise with the Board's Audit Committee and external auditors as necessary. Coordinate A133 audit as required when federal funding exceeds $750,000 in a year.
- Oversee preparation of the annual charitable return in a timely manner and ensure that statutory requirements are met in order to protect the Foundation's charitable status.
Grants, Funding, & Investment Management
- Responsible for effectively managing internal grant cycle and awards. Ensure compliance with SHRS policies and donor regulations.
- Coordinate with Investment Committee and Investment Managers to provide accurate and timely endowment information to the Investment Committee and Foundation Board. Create awareness regarding market changes that may adversely affect the performance of the investment portfolio.
- Monitor the management of the charitable remainder trust.
- Provide accurate and timely reporting on the financial activity of individual funds/projects. Analyze data to identify trends and problems.
- Oversee the financial reporting for federal grant, which currently supports the Teen Connect program.
- Monitor for compliance with all grant funded programs to include federal, state, local, and foundation funded programs. Ensure all necessary reporting is completed as required.
Leadership & Engagement
- Build excellent relationships and provide exceptional service to SRF Board of Trustees, Advisory Board members, donors, SRHS administration, key partners, and community members.
- Act as primary liaison to the SRF Audit and Investment Committees in coordination with VP/ED.
- In collaboration with the VP/ED, hire, train, and develop operations staff. Evaluate performance and provide professional development training as well as coaching/mentoring to improve performance.
- Liaise and coordinate with the Development staff on new programs and strategies designed to increase awareness and presence in the Upstate.
- Maintain strong internal relationships with foundation team, SRHS administration, and staff.
- Be an active participant and supporter of SRF special events, the annual fund, the grateful patient program, and employee campaign activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required. Master's degree preferred.
- Designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required
- Seven (7) or more years of progressive leadership experience required, preferably in foundation or nonprofit accounting.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) is required
- Experience with short and long-term strategic financial planning
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, develop strong working relationships, and achieve results through others
