Senior Underwriter

Job description

Determines acceptability, coverage, and pricing for large and complex Group and Health insurance business and agrees on coverage within regulatory requirements, corporate product offerings and designated authority level.

Job Responsibilities

* Reviewing applications for group life and health insurance and associated underwriting documentation for large, complex, or high risk groups; evaluating and classifying group risk to determine acceptability, coverage and pricing.
* Accepting, modifying or rejecting group health applications for large or complex groups; recommending appropriate adaptation of policies to accommodate group situations.
* Coordinating and cooperating with sales, branch managers, agents, and other parties in the development and support of group health insurance products and features.
* Designing risk profile for group insurance products; guiding less experienced underwriters on the processes of risk identification and classification.

Job Qualifications

Education

* Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Finance, Accounting or related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience

* 5 years - Stop Loss Underwriting, Financial Underwriting, Actuarial, or Financial Management experience required
* 1 year - Experience working with prospects and renewals required

Skills\Certifications

* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision or function in a team environment sharing responsibility, roles and accountability.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
* Must be a team player, be organized and have the ability to handle multiple projects
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
* Strong analytical, planning, organizational and research skills
