Job description

Job Role Summary

The Laboratory Chemist maintains high levels of quality control and quality assurance for the certification testing of finished products. Analytical techniques are used to verify that products meet quality specifications. In addition, the chemist provides technical support and problem solving to the operating units. A successful candidate is responsible for and accountable for all laboratory activities under their direction.

The Laboratory Chemist maintains:

* ISO 9001 and other quality system requirements relating to data generation, customer satisfaction, and service commitments
* Maintains compliance with all company programs and provide support for Laboratory Operations

Job Role Responsibilities

* Actively engages in the laboratory and site's safety program
* Supports manufacturing quality through adherence to policies and procedures
* Maintains and calibrates equipment to support the testing process and identifies and resolves testing problems
* Installs new equipment as well as develops and documents new tests
* Troubleshoots test equipment used to analyze products
* Able to solve analytical problems and lead efforts to introduce new technologies, which support petroleum refining efforts
* Identifies equipment that should be replaced and recommends purchases
* Ensures compliance to testing procedures as written and develops all method support documentation
* Supports Laboratory goals to meet operational excellence
* Helps with responses to audit findings and customer complaints
* Investigates quality incidents relating to laboratory or manufacturing issues
* Assures data reliability through adherence to quality objectives
* Completes scheduled maintenance and calibration of instrumentation in a timely manner
* Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory standards for health, safety and the environment
* Supports refinery or chemicals operations in troubleshooting and improvement initatives
* Serve as communication pathway between business unit and laboratory
* Identify and implement laboratory initiatives to improve unit performance

Job Requirements

* 3 - 5 years of lab experience is desirable
* Ability to lead and manage others while still keeping a team approach
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects - each with multiple tasks
* Commitment to high standards and concern for accuracy
* Strong oral and written communication is required
* Mechanical aptitude and computer competency are necessary skills to problem solve analytical instruments
* Experience in lab quality control, statistical techniques and elemental analysis is desirable
* Knowledge of Chemometrics and Statistics is desirable
