Job Summary and Responsibilities

The assistant superintendent s primary responsibility is to support the project superintendent and project manager in completing assigned projects. The assistant superintendent participates in overseeing job site safety, quality, project scheduling, and communications with the architect and consultants on-field and constructability issues. Occasional travel is required. This position reports to the project superintendent.

Essential Functions
  • Confirms that all work is performed per contractual and quality standards.
  • Assist in scheduling and directing the daily activities of work and taking necessary action to meet the project objectives of cleanliness, safety, price, schedule, quality, and process.
  • Maintain daily paperwork such as field reports, schedule updates, and e-mail correspondence to keep the various people involved with the project informed of important issues.
  • Implement incremental project schedules that make certain upcoming events are on track and proactively attended.
  • May be assigned responsibility for a segment of a project.
  • Assist project manager and superintendent in the development and updating of the CPM construction schedule.
  • Provide administrative support to the project superintendent.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the project staff.
  • Maintain and support safety programs by promoting and maintaining a culture that values safety, health, and cleanliness.
  • Assist in establishing, maintaining, and leading the on-site Total Quality Management process.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of the project closeout process.
  • Conduct and/or attending pre-construction, progress, and other project and staff meetings.
  • Participate in training and other forms of continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist superintendent with the SWPPP Program.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Construction Skills

  • Understand means and methods of construction and processes.
  • Understand the sequencing of work and the strategy of creating effective project schedules.
  • Has the ability to understand the function and purpose of the final product. Uses the knowledge to challenge the appropriateness of the work in progress.
Qualifications

Candidates must have the following requirements:

  • A.S degree in construction management preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in working with a general commercial contractor
  • Experience managing a direct-hire workforce and subcontractors
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the project team, clients, and subcontractors
  • A leader who can successfully drive a project to completion
  • Proficient computer skills using software applications - Procore, Ranken, Bluebeam
  • Valid driver s license required
  • Performs well under pressure and consistently meets deadlines
  • Team player and willing to go the extra mile to get the job done
