SUMMARY

Working with general supervision, the HR Generalist assists the Human Resource Department with administering programs, administering payroll, handling employee relation issues, and interfacing with management. This position interacts with his or her supervisor several times a week, perhaps daily, to receive guidance and feedback. Many non-routine activities will require a supervisor's advance approval.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist HR Managers, Supervisors, and Managers with employee relation's issues, which include approving employee terminations or recommending appropriate performance coaching
  • Interpret and answer Human Resources policy and procedure questions for associates
  • Conduct and/or coordinate effective and timely investigations and response related to Employee Relations issues, or unemployment hearings & appeals, which may include writing position statement and affidavits
  • Document employee relations' calls/issues on HR Associate Incident Report Form
  • Assist in updating Human Resources material (handbooks/policy manuals/on-boarding materials/Benefit Presentations)
  • Create timecards, discount cards, and pay cards for associates
  • Manage the associate attendance tracking within Kronos & Access Database
  • Create and run reports using Kronos report writing system, including confidential reporting such as pay calculations and payroll changes
  • Manage and track associate FMLA, STD, & workers' comp leave
  • Research Federal and State laws to ensure company compliance
  • Perform exit/stay interviews with employees
  • Maintain and update job descriptions, and org charts for SOX compliance
  • Assist Human Resources department with projects
  • Organize and assist with recruitment efforts including job fairs, job reality summits, interviewing, and new hire orientations
  • Coordinate pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug screens Assist with pre-screening resumes/applications and scheduling interviews as needed
  • Provide additional clerical duties as needed to support the overall function of the department
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary to fulfill optimum efficiency of this position

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree from an accredited program in Business, Human Resources or Psychology preferred
  • At least 3 years of experience in Human Resources in an administrative or support capacity required, that includes employee relations experience required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION, JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Proficient working knowledge of Windows-based business computers and Microsoft Office programs, specifically, Access, Excel, Outlook, Power Point and Word
  • Proficient ability to communicate effectively with others using spoken and written English - bilingual English/Spanish communication skills preferred
  • Ability to be flexible to adapt to changing priorities and perform basic task work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to answer telephone and initiate phone calls in a professional manner
  • Possess accurate typing and data entry skills
  • Ability to use a basic office equipment and machinery, including fax machine, photocopier, and 10-key pad on a computer keyboard
  • Proficient customer service skills
  • Ability to recognize discrepancies/errors in written/recorded data/information including the ability to initiate and respond to work errors in a professional manner, working collaboratively and cooperatively with others
  • Working knowledge or sorting and filing using alpha and/or numeric order
  • Proficient presentation skills to effectively present information to an audience of varying responsibility within the company
  • Possess the learning to receive and apply cross-functional training; willingness to assist other functions and work groups as needed so that department achieves or exceeds its overall business objectives
  • Proficient project planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities in order to meet deadlines in an environment with overlapping and potentially conflicting priorities
  • Demonstrated capacity for gathering and scrutinizing data to identify issues, opportunities, patterns, and sustainable business solutions
