Job description

Summary

We are looking for someone whose duties will include assisting a NIH-supported research project on the neocortico-cerebellar cooperation. Our research area is systems neuroscience, but we are looking for someone who has basic engineering knowledge and skills (including programming skills) and likes to build equipment (for example, we are thinking of an engineering student who is interested in neuroscience).

The main task for this position is to order and set up state-of-the-art equipment for the animal surgery, behavioral experiment, and neural activity recording. The devices and surgical instruments are basically established already, but require customization, so this position will communicate with vendors for customization.

Supplementary tasks include assisting with neuroscience experiments, surgeries, and histology (simple tissue staining).

Job Duties

* Orders laboratory supplies and equipment for the neocortico-cerebellar coordination research project.
* Communicates with vendors about equipment customization, if necessary.
* Sets up behavioral experimental equipment and neural activity recording devices under the supervision of research faculty.
* Performs Histological staining (simple Nissle staining).
* Assists with ongoing experimental work to include animal surgery, animal training, data analysis, microscopy, or other tasks as needed.
* Performs simple animal behavior experiment and animal training.

Minimum Qualifications

* Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
* One year of relevant experience.
