Synthesis Scientist - North Houston, TX

Kelly Science & Clinical is currently seeking candidates for a Synthesis Scientist position at a specialty chemical company in north Houston, TX. The overall focus of this role is to develop high performance materials based on both thermoset and thermoplastic chemistry for the Advanced Materials business. This position entails new polymeric material discovery and exploring new synthetic processes, modifying existing synthetic processes, performing and understanding material properties as they relate to structural performance in the field of advance composite systems.

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conduct research to develop new generation high performance materials utilized in the field of polymer matrix composite (PMC)
  • Generate original and innovative ideas and solutions to PMC synthesis problems.
  • Generates options and alternatives that encourage different and unique ways of looking at things
  • Ability to logically break down material problems into their essential elements and develop solutions through novel monomer and polymer synthesis.
  • Modify existing thermoset materials to improve their cost/performance characteristics.
  • Communicate research results to stakeholders through reports and presentations
  • Create and protect intellectual property for the company

Other general responsibilities:

  • Participate in and complete company-required training programs
  • Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company

Job Requirements:

  • PhD in Organic Chemistry / Polymer Science or PhD Candidate in Organic Chemistry, Polymer / Material Science that is set to graduate within 6 months
  • BS degree with 5 + experience in organic/ polymer / material chemistry, can include academic research
  • Extensive hands on experience in organic/polymer synthesis and material characterization
  • Strong understanding of chemical reactivity and material structure-property relationship

This is a long term contract assignment. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, day shift. If you meet the above qualifications, please submit your resume for immediate consideration.
