Job description

Summary

This is a position available in the Baylor College of Medicine Knockout Mouse Phenotyping Program Production and Phenotyping group. This role supports the overall project goal of high-throughput evaluation of mouse models of human diseases. A successful candidate will provide skilled care and husbandry of laboratory animals, perform various experimental mouse procedures, and complete data entry into a research database.

We are seeking applicants able to demonstrate a history of excellent workplace attendance and meticulous work; highly motivated and detail-oriented individuals with strong communication skills preferred.

Job Duties

* Assist with the organization of animal housing and research areas.
* Address and resolve animal health and welfare concerns.
* Perform animal husbandry assignments such as mating, weaning, and colony maintenance.
* Carry out experimental procedures on mouse test cohorts.
* Enter colony and phenotyping data to a custom research database.

These responsibilities are the primary duties for four staff members who are part of a team of twelve; duties also include regular interaction and reports to others within this larger group. All Baylor College of Medicine Knockout Mouse Phenotyping Program Production and Phenotyping staff members also have regular interactions with Baylor College of Medicine CCM staff as needed in matters of animal colony maintenance, welfare, and research procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

* High School diploma or GED.
* Two years of relevant experience.
* Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).

Preferred Qualifications

* Previous experience with computer data entry preferred.
* Mouse handling experience strongly preferred.
