Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips Chemical is seeking a Shift Lab Technician to work in the Materials Evaluation Lab (MEL) at our Research & Technology (R&T) facility in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Lab Technician will engage in polymer testing activities in areas related to rheology, physical properties, mechanical properties, and thermal properties. This Lab Technician will support pilot plant manufacturing, QA/QC, site research groups, manufacturing plants, the technical service group, and product and application development.
Responsibilities
* Perform work in compliance with all safety, environmental and health regulations and procedures.
* Perform work in compliance with all A2LA/ISO 17025:2017 requirements and the Lab's Quality Manual.
* Maintain competency in ~20 different laboratory test methods.
* Must be proficient in ASTM and ISO testing protocols and capable of performing such tests to the standards.
* Perform a high volume of routine tests independently in the laboratory utilizing lab instruments/equipment with tight deadlines..
* Perform data gathering, charting, recording, and reporting on a regular and ongoing basis.
* Verify calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment regularly as needed.
* Upkeep, maintain, trouble-shoot, and repair laboratory instruments and equipment.
* Safeguard all laboratory test results via good documentation practices. Must be able to learn/use StarLIMS (LIMS), Biovia Notebook (ELN), and Ensur (DCS) software for data and records documentation.
* Monitor the inventory of essential laboratory supplies and order supplies and services in accordance to company policies and procedures.
* Must be able to work in an independent role on various schedules with minimal oversight while communicating with both the Laboratory and Pilot Plant supervision.
* Capable of conducting analyses of data and test method validation.
Required Qualifications
* High School/GED diploma AND 2 years higher education or relevant lab work experience.
* Required to work 12 hour rotating shift work schedule (including nights, weekends and holidays).
* Ability to demonstrate CPChem Leadership Elements including a high level of personal integrity, professionalism, and a team-oriented approach.
* Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision after initial on-the-job training.
* Ability to perform repetitive tasks with a high level of focus and attention to detail.
* Ability to operate, trouble-shoot and maintain highly specialized instruments/equipment and software.
* Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
* Associate or bachelor's degree in a science related field.
* At least 2 years' experience in an analytical laboratory setting.
* A familiarity with one or more of the following polymer characterization techniques: melt index, rheology, density, DSC, TGA, GPC, ash, Izod impact, high speed impact, universal testing machines, microscopy, hot tack/heat seal, Elmendorf tear, dart drop, coefficient of friction.
* Knowledge and experience in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
* Knowledge and experience in ISO 17025 quality systems.
* Knowledge and experience with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
