Job description

The YMCA of Greater Richmond, is seeking a dedicated, experienced full time Lifeguard to ensure safety of members and program participants in our indoor pools.

DUTIES

The full time Lifeguard position is a 35 hour direct service role. Incumbent will relate to members in a professional and courteous manner, welcoming/acknowledging each member in a pleasant and friendly manner and openly and actively listen to questions, concerns and feelings of members and staff - dealing with them honestly, respectfully and positively.

The full time Lifeguard will oversee safety, cleanliness and order of lap pools, family pools and surrounding areas; and assist with maintenance and upkeep of pool equipment. Will be trained in and knowledgeable about emergency procedures set forth by the YMCA of Greater Richmond, follow all procedures, and record and report all accidents and incidents to Director. Will serve as a role model for part-time aquatics staff, and may assist with training other employees.

The full time Lifeguard will handle multiple tasks in a calm and responsible way, always affirming the member while continuing to scan the pool. They will build member relationships by showing interest, caring and responsiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have at least six months of lifeguarding experience, strong communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to successfully implement YMCA of Greater Richmond safety standards and facility Emergency Action Plan. Applicants must be flexible and able to work some evenings, weekends and holidays.

Applicants must also have current CPR-Pro, AED, First Aid, and YMCA/Red Cross/Ellis lifeguard certifications. Must hold O2 certification, or obtain within 30 days of hire. Oxygen Administration (O2) is preferred but not required. *The Y will train interested candidates who meet basic swim requirements if not already certified!

Salary: $31-$32,000. Hiring incentive available.
