The Harvey L. We are looking to expand our core research team at the NHPI with a highly experienced Principal Research Scientist who will serve in a key leadership role with responsibility for all stages of research studies including conception, design, data and methods, analytics, review, manuscript development, and managing the peer-review process. Applicable candidates will be from one of the following fields: health services research, health economics and outcomes research, health policy research, or similar. This individual will lead other researchers in studies that span a wide range of methodologies using the NHPI's extensive Medicare and commercial claims databases. Due to the highly collaborative nature of our research, the Principal Research Scientist must have exceptional skills in communication, with the ability to clearly identify and translate stakeholder goals into specific aims for the design and execution of research.
As a member of the NHPI team you will:
- Lead the design, analysis, and publication of studies within the research portfolio using large, complex insurance claims databases
- Conduct research and advanced analytics using expertise in retrospective research design, economic modeling, advanced statistics, and complex health care claims data
- Support development of a robust, innovative research agenda that achieves NHPI objectives and advances ACR strategic goals
- Assist with generation of evidence-based clinical practice and policy recommendations
- Prepare scientific research reports, scholarly papers, abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations, summarizing research findings from studies or projects assigned
- Present research effectively to a variety of stakeholders at academic and professional meetings
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to staff in research design, decision modeling, data management, statistical analysis, and programming
- Serve as the direct manager to one or more research analyst(s)
- Serve as a skilled consultant and subject matter expert in key collaborative research relationships and with ACR leadership regarding health policy research strategy and design, and the translation of results in the context of current health policy debate
Qualified candidates will possess the following:
- PhD in a field focused on the study of health services research, health policy, outcomes or economics with 5+ years professional work experience, or MS or MPH with a similar focus and 10+ years of related experience required; experience in radiology-focused research preferred
- Advanced skills in statistical analysis, modeling, and evaluation techniques in hypothesis-driven, applied healthcare research
- Expertise in diverse multivariate statistical methods
- Extensive experience with large, complex medical claims data sets
- Proven ability to write and publish for medical or scientific audiences
- Exhibited ability to understand and specify stakeholder objectives and translate into testable hypotheses for the design and execution of research
- Excellent written/oral communication skills, honed consulting skills, and ability to tailor communication to a variety of stakeholder audiences
- Expert-level proficiency in statistical software and coding using a desktop or cloud-based workspace. SAS experience preferred; Python, STATA, or R experience a plus
- Proven ability to multitask and complete projects according to scope and timeline
- Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills in team environment
