Your Opportunity:
The Supply Chain team is looking for motivated professionals to facilitate the distribution of our great products to customers and consumers. These personnel can analyze production metrics against market needs in Supply & Demand Planning, focus on product transportation through Logistics, or ensure the shelves of your local grocery store are stocked by Direct Store Delivery.

The Load Control Supervisor is directly responsible for the supervision of the Transportation Staff. The primary focus is to ensure consistent, efficient, reliable and timely service levels to customers. This position will also bridge the communication link between transportation providers, sales, brokers and customers. It also includes problem resolution in support of providing excellent service to Smithfield customers.

Core Responsibilities:
Communicates and implements new service offerings to Transportation Team members along with assisting in the development and initiation of plans for movement of raw materials.

Tracks and measures carrier performance through cost analysis, equipment availability, and service levels and makes recommendations as required to improve the effectiveness of transportation programs.

Ensures policies on carrier utilization are adhered to consistently so that shipments are handled quickly, safely, and within budget.

Responsible for making decisions on how to appropriately handle unique circumstances related to transportation with all employees on staff. These can include but are not limited to the following: making determinations on product shortage (backorder) shipments, relieving carriers of assigned duties, assigning new carriers to shipments and generally ensuring that loads deliver on time.

Plans and directs work through staff personnel to facilitate efficient and effective customer service.

Performance to key transportation metrics as defined by upper management.

Understands transportation pricing and negotiates market competitive rates.

Maintains close communication with shipping facilities and other Functional Transportation supervisory staff.

Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 2+ years' of experience in Transportation, Logistics or Customer Service; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

Bachelor's Degree, preferred.

Experience acting as a lead by providing training, guidance or mentoring to less experienced staff or managing processes and projects, preferred.

Understanding of transportation pricing and negotiation.

Strong U.S. geographic knowledge.

Understanding of DOT, State and Federal regulations preferred.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Transportation Management systems.

Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.

The ability to work through complex, unstructured problems.

Capable of communicating and expressing ideas clearly and concisely, in both written and verbal formats.

High level of organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.

Strong negotiation skills.

Must be available to address any customer service related issues 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Responsible for supervision of a team of Transportation Representatives.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
