The UVA Community Health Communications and Brand Manager leads communication strategy for UVA Health's community hospitals and clinics in Northern Virginia and Culpeper, formerly Novant Health UVA Health System (NH UVA). The Manager supports three acute care medical centers and an integrated network of provider clinics and ambulatory locations throughout the region. This position reports to the Director of Marketing & Communications for UVA Community Health and is part of the broader UVA Health communications organization. The Manager is expected to support the local communication and rebranding needs of the community health locations while maintaining close alignment to the priorities and objectives of UVA Health marketing and communications. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the strategic communications process of building mutually beneficial relationships between the community health system and its publics, with a strong focus on internal communications, brand management and content development. Must be excellent at project management and prioritization.

The Communications and Brand Manager leads the internal communication strategy across the community health footprint, with responsibility for drafting, editing and triaging needs on a daily basis. This person acts as strategic advisor to UVA Community Health leaders in setting and executing system-wide and department- or facility-specific communication needs for employees, consumers, providers, media and other key publics. This includes support for a wide range of functions throughout the system including executive communications, human resources, IT, compliance, facilities, patient relations and others. The Manager formalizes best practices and supports communication/ employee engagement events, employee forums, and team member activities across Manassas, Haymarket and Culpeper locations. This person will help with daily management of existing communication channels and will collaborate with Marketing and Communications leaders in the evaluation and transition of the communications ecosystem to optimize reach and frequency of communications, including but not limited to internal news platforms, public websites, ad-hoc email and memo communications, intranets and social media channels. The Manager provides media relations guidance to team members, triages and advises on inbound media inquiries, and assists the Marketing-Communications department in efforts to garner earned media and raise awareness of the brand through storytelling.

As the system undergoes a brand change due to the recent acquisition by UVA Health, the Communications and Brand Manager will play an essential role in establishing and driving processes for the review and approval of branded materials throughout the community health market and with vendors. The Manager will become an expert on UVA Health brand and writing style standards and will ensure brand compliance of materials requested or submitted from community health locations and departments. This will include creation of templates, and the copywriting and/or editing of brochures, flyers, signs and other collateral types used throughout the system to market or communicate.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in journalisum. communications or related filed required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of six year's relevant experience in communications or marketing required.
  • Additional Skills Required: • Excellent writing and editing skills; can write effectively in a variety of styles and tones to match the audience, channel and communication objectives.
    • Acute sense of judgment, tact and diplomacy. A strong sense of teamwork and ability to manage and execute strategic communications programs.
    • Experience managing and coordinating responses to media inquiries.
    • Ability to cultivate trust and relationships among hospital leaders and team members as well local media.
    • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines while keeping focused on overall strategy and goals.
    • Skilled at negotiating and consensus-building.
    • Ability to drive/travel to multiple locations/facilities in Northern Virginia and Culpeper geographies as needed, but primarily works remotely at this time.
    • Experience working with print vendors, creative agencies, and other outside parties to facilitate orders, reviews, approvals, new contracts and ongoing relationship
