Vice President of Finance and Operations

About the Opportunity

ArtsFund is seeking a Vice President of Finance and Operations to join our mission to support the arts through leadership, advocacy, and grant making in order to build a healthy, equitable, and creative Washington. This is a senior-level position that will be involved in both day-to-day operations and long-term strategy. The successful candidate will join a senior leadership team that includes the Vice President of Development, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Communications, and the President and CEO. The role reports directly to the CEO and will have regular interaction with ArtsFund Board of Trustees and Foundation Board of Directors. The candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in the hiring of a Finance and Operations Coordinator that will report directly to the VP of Finance. ArtsFund is a small team of 11 and the successful candidate will be a collaborative leader that can work closely with others in a participatory decision making environment.

Responsibilities include (in coordination with Finance and Operations Coordinator)

  • Full charge bookkeeping for +$4 million annual budget and support to the investment committee for a +$30 million endowment.
  • Day-to-day human resource management for ArtsFund's staff of 11, and oversight of the ArtsFund office and of administrative, technical and operational systems.
  • Management of ArtsFund facilities.
  • Reporting on all operational, financial, and facility matters to the President, Board of Trustees, ArtsFund Foundation Board, and appropriate committees.
  • Coordination of ArtsFund's allocations process including administration of the applications system, coordinating all aspects of allocations committees, managing grant compliance and developing and maintaining a familiarity with the work of arts groups.
  • Financial and statistical analysis of arts organization activities, grant allocation models, and other financial issues in which ArtsFund is involved.
  • Support other departments in financial analysis and strategy as needed.

Necessary qualifications

Employee Management

  • The position will oversee 1 FTE (Finance and Operations Coordinator) and frequently lead smaller teams for organization and grant budgeting, audit, etc. The successful candidate will be skilled in team management.

Finance

  • An advanced knowledge of finance and accounting sufficient to accurately and consistently handle day-to-day activities, month-end reconciliations and reporting, and the ability to work in tandem with an audit firm to prepare yearly audits and 990 filings.
  • A professional level, working knowledge of both QuickBooks and MIP accounting systems.
  • The ability to analyze and report on financial data in a strategic way that will assist staff and board in decision making.
  • An advance working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the ability to produce reports and analysis in a timely manner.

Human Resources

  • Familiarity with ADP payroll systems and managing employee payroll and benefits administration including health and 403b plans.
  • Listening, relationship, and negotiation skills necessary to effectively handle day-to-day HR issues among staff.

Operations

  • Successful experience with both paid and pro-bono vendor management.
  • Willingness to be point of contact for office-related coordination and administration including relationship with building management, landlord, janitorial staff, and office equipment suppliers and vendors.

Preferred qualifications

  • A bachelors or advanced degree in finance or accounting or a similar certificate (CPA) of qualification.
  • A successful background (+5 years) in nonprofit finance.

Compensation

The Vice President of Finance and Operations position offers a salary range of $100,000 - $120,000 annually plus health benefits, 403b matching contributions (3%), and 3 weeks PTO that is vested immediately at start date.
