Job description
PURPOSE:
The HR Director (Regional) is a senior business partner to senior operational leadership and is responsible for leading, implementing and executing the organization's HR strategy, key projects and initiatives within the assigned region or group. Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the HR Director is a member of the Regional Leadership Team, providing functional support to the HR team within the assigned region or group. The HR Director (Regional) leads and partners with the business in areas such as Talent Development, Talent Selection, Workforce Planning, Engagement, Recognition, Performance Management, Organizational Development, Associate Relations, Compensation, Benefits, Wellness, Risk Safety, Labor Relations, Sustainability and Philanthropy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- HR Leadership
- Collaborate cross-functionally to provide HR leadership to the region
- Partner with SVP/VP of Ops and Ops Directors to address problems through talent lens
- Manage and coach Sr. HR Manager/HR Manager/Business Partner and address escalations as needed
- Leads the HR function for region/group, provides functional HR expertise, executes on key projects, and drives performance in the local HR teams.
- Direct management of Sr. HR Manager, HR Manager, Business Partner across the region/group. Responsible for leveraging best practices and creating a culture of collaboration within the region/group and across the enterprise.
- Participates in regional strategy development and advises on National programs.
- Facilitates delivery of HR programs across the region/group. Participates in enterprise-wide projects, advises on policy and program design and roll-out plans. Ensures alignment around HR processes and programs.
- Establish framework to determine which investigations warrant full investigation.
- Strategic Business Partnership
- Builds effective working relationships with leaders. Balances region/group needs with HR guidelines when making decisions.
- Leverages a deep understanding of business needs and participates in systematically solving business problems across the region/group through the talent lens.
- Responsible for driving the workforce and talent agenda, creating a compelling experience that attracts the right people in a competitive market and drives enterprise productivity.
- Forecasts current and future talent needs. Gain in-depth understanding of business priorities and translate into workforce planning for the region/group. Responsible for workforce planning and talent selection for region/group and partners with talent acquisition on leadership recruiting needs. Responsible for a leadership succession plan for the region/group and proactively identifies next generation leaders. Facilitates annual talent review process for region/group.
- Responsible for being a steward of the company culture.
- Assesses and monitors associate engagement on a proactive, ongoing basis.
- Partners with senior operations leaders to create region engagement action plans.
- Drives development of location action plans through HR and Operations.
- Identifies trends and works to systematically address disengagement issues.
- Actively selects and updates talent metrics. Derives insights from metrics and uses those insights to solve business problems, identify trends that require action, and improve processes.
- Drives initiatives to increase caliber of talent and increase retention rate; innovate ways to add value to our employer brand proposition.
- Creates a culture of collaborative problem solving to design comprehensive solutions. Proactively designs solutions before problems arise. Takes control of challenges that arise and collects feedback from multiple sources to address the problem.
- Adapts strategies and techniques to resolve individual conflict situations. Provides leaders and associates with robust coaching and resources to help them resolve and prevent interpersonal and team conflicts and adapt to different associate and leadership styles.
- Drives change management within HR and among leaders. Actively participates in ensuring strategic changes that impact associates are rolled out in an engaging, well communicated, and reinforced way.
- Execution of HR Activities and Programs
- Responsible for driving the execution of core annual programs, such as performance objectives and goal setting, performance evaluations, compensation planning, talent assessment, succession planning, wellness, annual enrollment, etc.
- Responsible for driving HR compliance activities within geographic region, requires thorough knowledge of HR policies and procedures as well as federal and state/province laws.
- Owns and proactively manages personal development. Leverages networks effectively for self-driven, ongoing learning. Participates in development of HR colleagues.
- Travel required, may be up to 25-50%

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field
- Master's degree preferred
- PHR/SPHR/CHRL/CPHR Certification preferred
Experience:
- 10-15 years of HR experience, or related field
- 5 years of experience in HR leadership role
Knowledge:
- Human Resources techniques in the areas of talent, engagement and workforce planning
- Federal, state/province and local employment laws.
- Knowledge of talent acquisition techniques, including recruitment, interviewing skills, and selection.
- Understanding of compensation and benefit policies and programs, employee relations practices.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/ DEMANDS:
- Some travel may be required
- Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
- Stooping, bending, twisting and reaching may be required in completion of job duties.
