About the Role
The Traditional Investments Portfolio Manager will be tasked with overseeing our equity and fixed income platform in concert with our Chief Investment Officer. This hire will be involved in all aspects of portfolio management, from construction, performance, and research to client service and sales.
Unlike many RIAs, Freestone has a robust investment team that makes all investment strategy decisions, while Client Advisory teams focus on working with clients and communicating our investment process. Success in this role will be directly related to the hire's ability to distill and communicate our unique investment process in the public markets while building relationships with our client advisors, operations, and legal/compliance teams.
Portfolio Management
- Stay abreast of market conditions and proactively recommend changes within our equity and fixed income strategies to our Investment Committee as necessary
- Communicate approved changes to our internal trading teams and client advisor teams with oversight for execution
- Provide capital market acumen to help formulate market views and ensure incorporation into portfolios on a timely basis
- Partner closely with the CIO and Head of Investments to establish asset allocation and risk management policies
- Mentor junior investment team members
Research
- Partner closely with our CIO and Head of Investments in order to capture best ideas for our global equity platform
- Complete analytical reviews of managers, strategies, and asset classes
- Conduct onsite manager due diligence as necessary
- Analyze and recommend new candidate managers in equities and bonds
- Draft and publish public market research for internal and external audiences
Client Service and Sales
- Collaborate with compliance and marketing to produce quarterly commentary for client advisory teams
- Help us to tell our story with an eye toward generating new business
- Respond to ongoing questions from our client advisor teams regarding our equity and bond offerings
- Build the team's reputation for professional excellence and credibility within Freestone and throughout the investment management community
Our ideal candidate will have extensive demonstrable skills and experiences including the following:
- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of public market investment experience at an RIA, an asset manager, or as a sell-side analyst
- Strong client service orientation with a grasp of key issues impacting high net worth clients
- Appetite for innovation and high tolerance for change, complexity, and unpredictability with a "roll up your sleeves" mentality
- Sound investment judgment and risk management
- Strong analytical track record, both qualitative and quantitative
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including drafting and giving presentations
- Strong knowledge of capital markets
- Ability to identify and describe key risk exposures and portfolio characteristics
- Results- and performance-oriented, with comfort working in a collaborative team environment
- Highest level of commitment to ethics and professionalism
