Our LABORATORY MEDICINE DEPARTMENT has an outstanding full-time position for a Research Scientist 4.

General Duties

  • Designs experiments, develops approaches/methodologies to dissect immune responses in situ.

  • Performs various imaging tasks using state-of-art confocal microscopies and laser microdissection systems.

  • Analyzes comprehensive sequence data for T cell receptor repertoire from diverse patient cohorts. Participates in manuscript preparation and grant submission.

  • Analyzes issues and projects thoroughly, considers all factors, obtains and uses resources as necessary.

  • Consistently elicits support and cooperation from others when presenting ideas and concepts; facilitates group process to accomplish goals; demonstrates ability to persuade others to cooperate in achievement of plans.

  • Develops appropriate and creative solutions and chooses best alternative; takes action in a timely manner.

  • Analyzes experimental data and determines what modifications and follow-up experiments are necessary to generate relevant data.

  • Develops protocols and prepares the necessary documentation for oral presentation, publication, manuscripts and protocol manuals.

  • Directs the work of staff so as to achieve optimum productivity; encourages or requires employee involvement in planning and organizing work.

  • Effectively informs staff of policies, procedures, expectations, and objectives; solicits feedback from employees on an ongoing basis.

  • Follows University and external agency guidelines and policies relating to staff and faculty management; coaches and counsels as needed; seeks advice and approval for actions when necessary.

  • Fosters team effort and cooperation among staff members, both intra- and interdepartmentally.

  • Responsible for the administrative supervision for laboratory including: identifying staffing needs, recruitment, evaluations, terminations, etc.

  • Selects, trains, and develops employees; takes appropriate personnel action.

  • Provides ongoing feedback; identifies development opportunities and actively solicits employee input on work methods, supervision, etc. (Annual Performance evaluations must be completed)

  • Identifies key issues to be addressed, prioritizes well, notifies or involves appropriate parties.

  • Collects input from internal/external customers to determine if requirements are consistently met; identifies improvement opportunities and with employees, develops action plans.

  • Demonstrates techniques and shares practical knowledge as needed with medical technology students, residents, post-doctoral fellows, visiting scientists and new employees.

  • Perform other duties as required

    Requirements

  • Education requirement, minimum: PhD degree in Immunology or Virology.

  • Experience requirement, minimum: At least three years post-doc training in the field of mucosal immunology, viral-host interactions or antigen-specific T cell responses. Working experience in T cell responses to herpes simplex virus infection is highly desired.

  • Strong written and communication skills.

  • Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
