Since 2004 The Purple Store has been selling only purple things, starting online at thepurplestore.com and now in a beautiful spot at Pike Place Market. We invite you to join our scrappy but smart team!

Each day our business makes people from all over the world happy; we're delighted to be part of that. We love working at a place where customers' eyes light up when the walk in the door and that routinely gets fan mail from its customers.

We're adding another sharp person or two to come in and kick butt to help us grow. Please consider this position if you're

  • GREAT at retail, with at least 4-5 years solid retail sales experience
  • understand that customers are our guests and friends, not our "targets," and
  • are the kind of person who looks over your own shoulder to make sure the work is done well

We plan to meet candidates and see who fits these roles:

  • Retail sales team keyholder (most or part-time, 25-30 hours a week)
  • Retail sales team assistant manager (most time, possibly full time, 30-35 hours a week for now)

We're Looking For...

...strong retail sales skills

...smarts.

...natural organizational skills and attention to detail.

...mad work ethic to get things done, people who take it upon themselves to make sure everything is working as it should.

...some steady work experience, preferably a 1-2 years of retail sales plus maybe some office background (customer service or shipping experience a plus but not required).

...reliability, 100% trustworthiness, and integrity. Dyed hair okay, fried brains not.

...a cool head when things get busy. We prefer an active but calm, drama-free workplace.

...comfort checking in with everyone to make sure things have gotten done.

...ability to move boxes around here and there, including a few heavy ones.

...complete comfort talking to a customers on the phone and in person. We are never pushy on sales but we want staff who are friendly, confident, and glad to greet customers.

...consistent availability, including some weekend days (weekends are busy and fun)

...great personality to get along with people and have fun while working hard; this is NOT a stodgy work environment and we want people to fit in with that (while still recognizing it's a job and we all must meet expectations). This is a geek friendly workplace.

...humility to realize that we're a small business and that means sometimes we're the ones sweeping up or taking out the recycling, etc.

...ongoing availability (i.e. we're less inclined toward full-time students or those who are leaving shortly).

...age 21+

Being a purple fan is nice but definitely not required. Job skills and awesome personality are much more important to us.

Some Skills We Love - Not all required but speak up if you have any of these

- Product merchandising / displays

- Foreign language skills (do you speak anything well enough to converse with customers in person or in writing?)

- Ability to manage others

- Excel spreadsheet abilities or coding skills

- marketing and sales

- strong writing abilities for emails, product writing, or social media (grammar nerds welcome)

- photography or photo editing

- Warehouse organizing

Things to Know:

- Location: Pike Place Market - 92 Stewart St. Near a ton of buses and other transit.

- We've seen better results for all involved with staff who live at least relatively close by and aren't commuting an hour or more to work here; please consider this.

- Compensation - Varies by experience and skill. We wish we could afford a ton. At least $17/hr and possibly more if you're a proven salesperson, mgmt. experience, etc.
