Job Description:

We're looking for a Senior Manager, Corporate Strategy and Development to help us conceive and execute our corporate strategy and drive our efforts to grow Rakuten Advertising. You will be part of the Strategy and Business Development team and collaborate closely with Product, Partnerships teams, Operations, and Legal to nurture and grow new opportunities for Rakuten Marketing.

The Senior Manager, Corporate Strategy and Development will have a significant role in growing revenue through strategic initiatives and is responsible for driving market insights to support corporate and product initiatives across the business. Typical projects could involve defining a new international offering, interviewing experts / clients to develop recommendations, working with vast amounts of data to develop insights, and assessing market size and opportunity. The Senior Manager, Corporate Strategy and Development may also lead / support strategic workshops for executive leadership, help design and lead customer research initiatives, and track larger macro-economic trends impacting the business.

You have a strategic and data-driven perspective on product and growth opportunities and can effectively communicate both up and down a management ladder. You are excited by the challenge of ambiguous situations and thrive in a team environment.

Role & Responsibilities:

* Lead workstreams and projects to support US and global corporate strategy, and mentor / lead junior team members supporting strategy workshops, and ongoing strategy projects
* Assess business and technical capabilities; identify key opportunity areas for potential investment and conduct build, buy, borrow analyses
* Work closely with Head of Product, Senior Director of Strategy, CRO, and VP Product Marketing to assess potential acquisition / partner companies; lead analyses and conduct target interviews as necessary
* Understand key product business and technical capabilities and define key target clients and business attributes to quantify market opportunity
* Manage external market and industry trend research to understand macro-economic drivers and identify disruptive technology trends that may impact Rakuten Advertising

Key Requirements:

* Work Experience: 5+ years of work experience. Corporate strategy experience or MBA from top tier school a plus. Strategy consulting experience strongly preferred.
* Work Environment: People management experience. Comfortable operating independently in an ambiguous and international environment - you will often be interacting with teams that span ~4 continents; travel (domestic and international) is likely.
* Analytical Skills: Ability to independently synthesize internal and third-party data to identify business opportunity. Ability to design business cases and manage junior team members to create data models, as needed. Experience designing and launching primary research initiatives is a must.
* Technical Abilities: Expertise in Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with SQL a plus.
* Communication: Ability to communicate insights to stakeholders across the organization and convey key facts, recommendations, and supporting data insights. Strong written and executive presentation skills.
* Organizing and Planning: Ability to independently manage workstreams, manage junior team members, and meet internal milestones and deadlines. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and can juggle tasks with an ability to prioritize critical projects.
* Adaptability: Ability to respond and adapt to changing circumstances and to manage, solve problems and provide solutions in a climate of ambiguity. Can manage multiple deliverables at once, and understand changing business need to prioritize work efforts.
* Team Player: Proven ability to manage strong working relationships with team members.
* Detail Oriented: Ability to create polished deliverables and review junior team member deliverables to ensure work product is executive ready.
* Digital Advertising / Ad Tech: Prior experience in digital advertising or ad tech (affiliate marketing, display, paid search, attribution), and/or retail marketing, is a plus.
