The Integrated Service Center (ISC) supports the University's faculty, staff and student workers by serving as a first point of contact for designated HR and Payroll inquiries and by processing a limited scope of centralized Human Capital Management (HCM) transactions (i.e., within the HR, Benefits and Payroll domains). The hallmarks of the ISC are in delivering services that are timely, accurate and highly attuned to the fast-paced university environment.

The ISC has multiple openings for full time Senior Workday Business Analysts.

The University is currently involved in a multi-year program to modernize its existing financial systems. The UW Finance Transformation Program (UWFT) is implementing Workday Financials with a planned go-live date of July 2023. These positions will support the ISC's efforts as they work with the UWFT Program on the changes this implementation will have on the current configuration of Workday HCM. These positions are funded for the duration of the Program, with an expected end date in December 2023.

The Sr. Workday Business Analyst will support Tier 3 Application Management functions in Workday, a cloud-based human resource management software system. More specific responsibilities will include coordinating with other ISC team members to analyze/troubleshoot complex system issues, supporting the configuration and implementation changes to the Workday application, participating in testing/validation of functionality changes, supporting the development of Workday domain area training material, and acting in a functional ownership capacity for designated reports and integrations. In performing these duties, the incumbent will analyze business problems and processes to identify functional and non-functional solutions supporting the needs of the University.

As a contributor to the Application Support team, the Sr. Workday Business Analyst will serve as a subject matter expert within Workday to ensure design, development, configuration, testing and launch of specific features are complete and functional, both independently and in coordination with all other dependent Workday features. Further, this position is responsible for ensuring all dependent integrations, reports and other business needs are consistently maintained and accounted for as continual changes are made to the Workday system. This role will require extensive insight into various business process and technical considerations and encompass cognizance of relevant compliance/regulatory standards and associated audit/control reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Workday Configuration

  • Leverage knowledge across the spectrum of Workday business process and technical inter-dependencies, utilizing understanding of foundational design concepts, data conventions and workflow dependencies
  • Conduct systems analysis, identify enhancement opportunities and implement complex Workday configuration changes
  • Act as a primary configuration and administration expert for system functionality
  • Evaluate and assimilate evolving Workday functionality, remaining cognizant of complex system inter-dependencies and associated business process implications
  • Analyze business problems and processes to identify functional and non-functional solutions supporting the HR/Payroll needs of the University
  • Complete identification and implementation of complex Workday configuration changes
  • Complete periodic Workday update processes, including testing activities
  • Contribute to related application support activities as required
  • Collaborate with Integrations and Reporting teams to ensure functionality of designated Workday features continue as planned, and any new integrations/reports are completed
  • Adhere to protocols and standards for facilitating configurations and software changes in an accurate, efficient and compliant manner
  • Evaluate processes, identify improvement opportunities and implement required updates/enhancements in the context of a continuous improvement framework

    Advanced Operational Support
  • Coordinate closely with Tier 1 and Tier 2 ISC resources across the HCM, Benefits and Payroll spectrum
  • Functioning as an advanced systems expert, support resolution of complex user/stakeholder inquiries as needed
  • Troubleshoot advanced system issues, identify resolutions and communicate results
  • Support Workday transactions as required, including higher volume windows and major processing activities

    Knowledge Management, Training & Communication
  • Maintain productive relationships with designated stakeholders to understand policies, procedures and established standards
  • Support ISC knowledge management processes, including identification and verification of additions/changes to the working repository of knowledge content
  • Support ISC training activities, including development and verification of relevant content
  • Support ISC communication of Workday schedules, enhancements/updates and known issues

    REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Information Science, Computer Science or related area or related field and four years of relevant experience.
  • Experience analyzing complex HCM, Payroll, Benefits, or Time & Absence business processes and documenting requirements.
  • Experience working in the HCM, Payroll, Benefits, or Time & Absence domains with increasing project management responsibilities.
  • Experience working in the HCM, Payroll, Benefits, or Time & Absence domains configuration and maintenance, including 3+ years working specifically with Workday or similar ERP system.
  • Experience supporting system testing and/or data validation activities.
  • Experience with reporting, data, and security in a SaaS environment.
  • Ability to understand business and technical design considerations and facilitate problem solving/issue resolution.
  • Understanding of HCM, Payroll, Benefits, or Time & Absence related integration processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand business and technical design considerations and facilitate problem solving/issue resolution in the context of a customer service frame.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, in writing and in verbal presentations, to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience interacting with customers, including resolution of complex inquiries and efficient performance during high-volume timeframes
  • Experience providing production support of mission critical systems.
  • Experience onboarding, training, and mentoring junior employees.
  • Aptitude to develop strong institutional relationships.
  • Aptitude to develop cross-functional Workday knowledge (Payroll, Benefits, and HCM).
  • Aptitude to develop unique domain / institutional knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience in working on diverse groups and teams; respects, values, and contributes to UW Finance and UW's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED:
  • Experience playing an individual contributor role within a shared services environment
  • Working experience executing relevant business processes at the University of Washington or in a comparable higher education environment
  • Experience in the use of customer support infrastructure tools, including a case management system, knowledge base and associated reporting tool
