The Underwriting Consultant will analyze Financial Protection Products-Group Life, Group Short Term Disability (STD), Group Long Term Disability (LTD) and Supplemental Health- plan characteristics and assess risk. The Underwriting Consultant will be responsible for protecting profit while balancing sales growth pressure.

If you are located in PT/MT Time Zone, you will have the flexibility to telecommute* as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Analyze Group Life, Disability plan characteristics and assess risks as to frequency and potential severity of loss of clients
• Utilize established underwriting criteria and policies to provide proper rating methodologies
• Represent and negotiate rates and plan options with insurers to optimize cost-competitive Group Life, Disability and Supplemental Health benefit plans
• Build and maintain models to assist in the economic analysis of market alternative

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Math, Finance, Business, or equivalent work experience
• 5+ years of experience underwriting Group Life, Disability and Supplemental Health products on both a manual and experience rated basis
• Proficient Product Knowledge, including product and contract provisions, plan designs, pricing and various funding arrangements
• Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office suite (including Word and Excel)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with groups of 1,000 lives or more
• Experience with Training and Development of others
• Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
• Ability to effectively work in teams or individually
• Demonstrated Success collaborating with internal and external partners to develop appropriate case strategies

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $64,800 to $116,000. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $71,400 to $127,400. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
