R&D Manager - PMB
Reports to R&D Director, Consumer & Construction Business Unit
Job dimensions
Manage a team of chemists and technicians for R&D in order to offer PMB solutions
Manage a salary and expense budget worth about $1 million
Manage a product portfolio worth about $60 million a year in sales
Manage products and process improvements in the PMB area from an R&D perspective
Manage the Project Portfolio and Project Dashboard for all PMB projects
Activities
- Manage projects thru Stage Gate process and collaboration of cross-functional teams the success of R&D projects
- Accountable for managing product portfolio of PMB projects
- Lead and manage technical efforts of chemists and technicians in order to develop or improve products for further growth of the business
- Lead safety inspections in co-operations with other managers
- Prioritize active project thru portfolio management in monthly team meetings
- Manage work on cost reductions, process improvements, and quality/performance improvements of existing products and technology.
- Be updated on all procedural and technological changes of ANSI/ISO methods by i.e. attending industry technical meetings as they are related to Bostik cement based products.
- Active participation in regulatory conversations with Industry organizations,
- Provide R&D support to manufacturing, marketing, and sales when required.
- Provide production support for the PMB plants
- Ability to travel 20-30% of the time
Accountabilities
Technical focus on cement-based products that find an application in the flooring industry
Manage work habits in the PMB team in accordance with OSHA, EPA and Bostik specific guidelines to insure a safe and clean lab environment, Insure safe work environment in the PMB lab
Work with research institutes, universities, government agencies and industrial associations
Use of the stage process and execution of project plans to insure that technical goals that are aligned against business objectives.
Work with cross-functional teams to move product development from exploration through commercialization, develop new technologies and drive the development of new intellectual property.
Support to meet the business objectives
Work on process improvements in cross-functional teams
Set clear expectations for the PMB team
Take an active part in work related conflict solving
Qualifications / experience required
Minimum a Bachelor's degree in a chemistry, material science or material engineering, Master degree or PhD a plus
Expert knowledge of cement and inorganic chemistry and applications in construction systems.
Demonstrated ability to work in a cross-functional team
Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects
Result oriented
Open-minded
Ability to work well with people from different cultural backgrounds.
