Job description

Position Summary:

The Director of Financial Aid leads the development, implementation, documentation, and evaluation of all financial aid and scholarship programs. The director is a strategic partner in meeting the college's recruitment and retention goals and works in close collaboration with recruitment and retention partners.

The director is responsible for the awarding and disbursement of the annual financial aid expenditures, a comprehensive aid budget of approximately $37 million including federal, state, institution, and foundation aid. The director also contributes to the institutional strategic and enrollment planning, provides unit leadership and budget direction, and ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines and unit strategy in support of awarding financial aid to qualifying students.

The salary for this position is $80,000-$90,000 commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

- Analyze and interpret regulations (federal, state, UW System, institutional and NCAA) relative to financial aid functions, oversee the implementation of new regulatory requirements, and ensure ongoing compliance
- Leverage financial aid packages and policies to achieve the university's recruitment, retention, and access goals, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion-related financial aid initiatives
- Contribute to the development of financial aid communications that focus on demystifying financial aid, improving FAFSA-completion rates, and encouraging financial literacy
- Promote individual, student-centered counseling services and adjudicate professional judgement and aid appeal requests
- Serve as a member of Enrollment Management's (EM) leadership team which includes representatives from Admission, Recruitment, Financial Aid, EM Communications, and EM Analytics
- Collaborate with strategic partners such as Academic Affairs, Academic Support Programs, Division of Diversity Equity and Inclusion, the campuses' foundations, Cashier's Office, and the Registrar's Office
- Lead staff by creating an office culture that values innovation, efficiency, collaboration, accountability, and data-informed decision making

What You'll Need to Succeed:

- Masters' Degree from an accredited institution
- 5-years' experience working in financial aid and/or scholarship administration
- Demonstrated, consistent participation in professional development related to financial aid, leadership, diversity equity and inclusion, and/or other skills critical to the position
- Adaptability, personal integrity and high ethical standards
- Demonstrated experience conducting data analyses to inform financial aid/scholarship administration
- Supervision experience and/or project management experience
- Strong communication skills
