Overview / Responsibilities
Wood is recruiting for a Senior/Principal Environmental Regulation Consultant looking to further their career in environmental consultancy. We also have opportunities available at Consultant grade.
Our regulation team, as part of a broad technical environmental team, has a long track record of exciting roles supporting all aspects of environmental regulation with high profile clients. We are currently working on projects with clients leading on operations and decommissioning in the UK, and internationally. There will also be opportunities to support other teams on environment and sustainability related projects.

The role can be based in any of our UK office locations (London, Glasgow, Reading, Bristol, Leamington, Leeds, Birmingham, Shrewsbury, Knutsford and Newcastle) and for the right candidate the location of this role can be flexible with the option to mix home and office working subject to the requirements of the work.
Depending on the grade, will have the opportunity to excel in the following areas:
- Delivery of technically excellent projects.
- Development and leading client relationships.
- Preparing proposals and negotiating commissions with clients
- Managing successful projects and importantly, achieving customer delight.
The role involves:
- Working with our clients and colleagues across the environmental and engineering disciplines to develop creative solutions to compliance issues.
- Leading and authoring Environmental Permit applications and coordinating inputs.
- Defining legal and regulatory obligations to enhance compliance performance and create favourable outcomes for our clients.
- Supporting business development across a number of sectors.
- Scoping and preparing project proposals and deliverables.
Skills / Qualifications
We would like to hear from you if you are self-motivated, organised and have experience in the following areas:
- A relevant first degree (or equivalent) in science and /or engineering and preferably a relevant second degree (or equivalent).
- Previous experience working in environmental consultancy, client side or with the Environmental Regulator
- Excellent proposal and report writing skills
- Demonstrable experience coordinating and authoring Environmental Permit applications, Best Available Techniques Assessments and ideally environmental risk assessments
- Delivering regulatory and compliance services more broadly. This may include determining compliance requirements for projects, undertaking environmental audits or developing Environmental Management Systems. You may have experience providing environmental services on engineering projects
- You may also have experience liaising with environmental regulators
- An informed and practical understanding of environmental regulation and the challenges and opportunities this presents for our clients
- You will be confident in your verbal and written communication skills
- You will have the appetite to join a growing team and contribute to delivering environmental services to Wood's wider business
