About the role:

We are looking for passionate and motivated individuals with strong analytical problem solving modelling and IT skills to join the Carbon Trust. The successful candidate will work in project teams to deliver high quality, high impact advice to clients. The work will offer a chance to work on an influential portfolio of UK and international projects.

The core responsibilities of the role will include conducting or managing data research and analysis, interpreting data and developing and communicating insights as part of a project deliverable. This will often involve data modelling, and may also involve organisational carbon footprinting and accounting, and potentially product/supply chain carbon life cycle assessment, and will contribute towards organisations' carbon and sustainability strategies. More experienced candidates will immediately be involved in significant project and client management, and all candidates can expect to progress ambitiously in the levels of responsibility they hold in client work. The candidate will be expected to apply a high degree of independence and initiative in delivering high quality work.

The Carbon Trust provides innovative advice to governments and businesses around the world to support the global transition to a low carbon economy. We work closely with decision makers and implementers in key institutions in the UK and across multiple emerging and developing countries on low-carbon finance, programmes, policy and technology.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Conducting primary and secondary data collection (e.g. through interviews, surveys and desk-based research)
  • Developing and applying frameworks for analysis and problem-solving
  • Executing analytical tasks on projects, such as market analysis, business and financial analysis and data modelling
  • Building and overseeing complex models in Excel
  • Communicating findings orally and in writing (e.g. writing reports or producing PowerPoint slides)
  • Managing small projects and contributing significantly to larger projects, for corporate clients
  • For more experienced candidates, managing larger projects
  • Contributing to business development and institution-building efforts where required (e.g. knowledge development, marketing and sales)
  • Contributing to proposition development where required (for example in key areas like target setting, risk, value chain and endorsement)

Key skills we are looking for:

  • Excellent quantitative, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent Excel skills and ability to organise data
  • Fluent spoken and written English (other languages are an advantage)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain productive relationships and influence decision-making, tailoring approach depending on the seniority level of business contacts
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues in a team environment, and to work on multiple client projects across a given time period
  • Ability to think and work independently, taking the initiative and 'ownership' of tasks, having strong organisational and time management skills
  • Proven ability to use MS Excel for complex problem solving and analysis
  • Experience in using MS PowerPoint and Word for communication and report writing
  • Evidence of experience in planning and directing tasks for more junior members of staff (Analysts) will be an advantage, but not required
  • Evidence of experience in corporate sustainability consulting and carbon accounting will be an advantage, but not required

Qualifications and experience:

Essential:

  • Degree (or equivalent) calibre - qualified in a relevant energy, engineering and/or science discipline
  • Previous analytical experience is required, ideally in a professional business environment, such as a technical consultancy or think-tank

Desirable:

  • Masters level degree or equivalent in an engineering or numerate discipline
  • Previous experience of delivering sustainability projects would be advantageous
  • Fluent proficiency in another language is not a requirement but may be an advantage

Salary & Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary and a performance based bonus. Our hours are 37.5 per week with 28 days paid holiday plus bank holidays and a generous pension scheme.
