Your new company
A leading National Public Sector Organisation are in need of an experience Data Protection and Freedom of Information (FOI) Lawyer for a minimum of 2 years.

Your new role
Reporting to the Data Protection Officer and Head of Data Protection and Information Rights, this is a key position that is responsible for assisting with FOI matters relating to certain legacy issues facing the organisation.

Principle accountabilities:

* Taking the strategic lead on all FOI cases linking to Historical matters.
* Take the strategic and SME lead on the FOI steerco ensuring that all members are cognizant of FOI obligations and that decisions are in line with legislation and case law.
* Co-ordinate cross-government response where required including but not limited to BEIs and UKGI.
* Ensure that FOI disclosures are consistent with any disclosures made to the Statutory Inquiry.
* Liaising with internal POL departments with regard to all FOI matters for the collation, handling and decision-making aspects of Information Rights. Ensuring that Post Office's responses to FOIs are appropriate and timely.
* Ensure that adequate guidance and training is in place re exemptions, internal reviews.
* As necessary, monitoring the progress of other workstreams which may impact on FOI Requests and Information Rights.
* Instructing external legal counsel in relation to new and ongoing matters as required.
* Reporting internally on FOI and Information Rights law matters as necessary to the Group Legal Director, Head of Information Rights, General Counsel and other senior stakeholders including the Board.

What you'll need to succeed
You will be a qualified Lawyer or Barrister with at least 7 years of post-qualification experience, ideally in the field of FOI and Data Protection. You will be experienced in advising on disclosure on Informational Rights requests and be comfortable liaising with multi-disciplinary teams.
