Job description

The University of Surrey is seeking to appoint an outstanding figure to lead Guildford School of Acting (GSA) as its Head of School and is committed to attracting the widest and most diverse field possible.

GSA is an internationally renowned conservatoire that delivers world class performance and technical training, with a vibrant community of performers, performance makers, creative practitioners, and technicians graduating each year. With long-standing ties to the creative industries and some of the best professional training facilities in the UK, the School takes pride in its ethic of care, commitment to the student experience, and pursuit of artistic and educational excellence.

As an integral part of the University of Surrey, located on its award-winning Guildford campus, GSA enjoys the best of both worlds: the creative spirit of a conservatoire backed by the scale, breadth, and safeguards of a modern, technologically advanced university dedicated to promoting human well-being in all its forms.

A deep understanding of excellence and innovation in conservatoire training and education, strong operational and strategic credentials, and close links to the creative industries are key requirements of the role, alongside the ability to capitalise on the opportunities, including in the field of pedagogic scholarship, that come with membership of the University.

With an open, visible, and consultative leadership style, the Head will articulate a vision for the School that aligns with industry trends, putting equality, diversity, and inclusion at the heart of all that GSA does.

The appointment as Head will be for five years, subject to renewal. The successful candidate will be appointed to a permanent position at the University.
