Job description
60% Fundraising/Portfolio Management
Manages the identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors and donor prospects.
Maintain and manage a personal portfolio of active donor prospects and identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift donors and prospects. Maintain a deep understanding of the SVM academic plan, school strengths and challenges, and maintains working relationships
with faculty leaders in SVM. Conceives, creates, develops, implements, evaluates and manages fundraising programs and strategies to meet predetermined goals and objectives. Use Prospect Management and Tracking System (PMATS), databases,
research and screening services to identify and qualify prospects, plan and maintain prospect management and evaluation records of assigned prospects. Must comply with UC Davis Development policies and utilize the services and systems of the UC Davis including PMATS and the Advancement Information System (AIS) database.
30% Advancement Management
Manages a large and complex fundraising program with complex constituencies and programs, through a large professional staff, including non-fundraising professionals ( program administration), as well as related administrative support staff. Selects, trains, mentors, guides, directs and evaluates staff, and, as required, takes corrective action. Manages the full range of development programs and may also manage other external relations functions, such as volunteers, outreach, etc. Provides leadership, vision and direction for all School advancement activities. Serves as strategic member of Dean's Cabinet and external advisory board. Provide advancement counsel to Dean and Senior Management in planning and construction of new veterinary medical campus. Responsible for overall fundraising feasibility of gift funds needed to complete each building and supervising execution of each fundraising project. Oversee design and implementation of fundraising for SVM's centers of excellence and satellite academic programs. Provide senior level support to directors in development of fundraising programs, recruitment, training and staffing of volunteer committees and advisory boards. Execute annual and campaign activities to support program objectives of each center. Provide staff and technical support to each Center for publication of fundraising and promotional literature. Work with faculty and administrative leadership to establish goals and objectives for SVM portion of campus Capital Campaign. Serve as SVM liaison with campus campaign planners and consultants. Coordinate with overall school/campus development and comprehensive campaign. Comply with UC Office of the President and UCD development policies for Regents and Foundation funds. Collaborate with professional advancement personnel to develop solicitation and communication strategies for major gift prospects and with appropriate internal and external personnel to implement strategies. Participate in appropriate projects, training, and meetings for campus-wide development professionals, arranged by University Development.
10% Strategic Planning
Directs, implements and evaluates long and short-range strategic planning for advancement and assure goals are met. Provides leadership for activities that cultivate relationships with alumni & internal/external constituents, establish & maintain long-term relationships with an expanding network of donors that build trust and support for the SVM and its mission. Serve as advisor and resource to faculty with regard to proposals and fundraising projects. Participate in short and long-term planning with Dean to promote goals of SVM and campus. Ensure advancement efforts are organized, managed and appropriate infrastructure exists. Establish plan for SVM Development Unit to move to a self-sustaining status funded by the SVM's share of gift fees.

Under the direction of the Dean, with joint reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor - School and Unit Programs, involves designing, developing, delivering and administering a major, complex fundraising program.
Identifies new donor prospects through researching background information on potential donors and developing materials, marketing plans, and organizing related programs/event; cultivates, stewards, and solicits donors.
Manages a large and complex fundraising program within context of overall fundraising efforts at UC Davis, with complex constituencies and programs, typically through a large professional staff, including both fundraising and non-fundraising professionals when applicable (e.g., editors, public relations) as well as related administrative support staff. Reviews and approves recommendations for operational planning and control. Decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of department, division, or campus.
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience involving managing a major gift portfolio and securing major gifts of $50,000 or more, preferably in higher education, including knowledge of proven cultivation and solicitation.
* Advanced knowledge of and experience in all aspects of fundraising, donor and public relations, including principles, concepts, techniques and procedures, estate and planned giving vehicles
* Advanced knowledge of design, implementation of identification, cultivation and solicitation strategies and techniques.
* Advanced skills to conceive, design, implement and evaluate effective fundraising programs. Demonstrated experience in developing proposals and successfully soliciting funds from individuals, foundations and corporations. Demonstrated experience as a major fundraiser.
Advanced knowledge of leadership and management principles, concepts, techniques, etc. and advanced leadership/management skills, including skills to select, train, mentor, motivate and evaluate all levels of staff.
* Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships within all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
Working knowledge of and/or experience in an organized animal interest group, veterinary medicine and/or higher education is preferred. Advanced knowledge of the campus, its achievements, vision, mission, goals, objective and issues of concern both on campus as well as higher education. Advanced political acumen. Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) or other fundraising professional certification preferred. Demonstrated experience in working with university-level alumni or other donor constituency groups. Includes creating and implementing group- specific communications, organizing and managing group meetings (in person and/or virtual) and resolving group conflict in a professional manner. Experience with a comprehensive campaign in a college, university or other complex institution is preferred.
