Position Summary

In this role, you will lead our Global Risk Operations teams which include fraud monitoring, chargebacks/disputes, KYC/KYB and customer/vendor due diligence. You will be responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of effective risk & compliance process controls. You will also oversee the processes used to identifying control failures, facilitating risk and compliance remediation, internal audits, regulatory exams, and monitoring the first line of defense to minimize risk exposure. This position will also manage the risk and control environment to ensure that exposures are kept at MQ acceptable levels and will drive risk mitigation plans.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a best-in-class Risk Operations team that mitigates financial, reputational, and regulatory exposure for MQ, our customers and our partners.
  • Ensures our continue compliance with all applicable financial services regulations.
  • Serves as the liaison between the MQ Risk Operations team, other Marqeta teams, our customers, our bank partners, the major networks and our third-party partners.
  • Co-manage external vendors and third-party vendors providing services and tools for the Risk Ops Teams
  • Lead initiatives that support risk and control management protocols, to include governance support, risk oversight, risk infrastructure development, risk identification, quantification, and emerging risks.
  • Ensure risks associated with customer/cardholder accounts are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to identify, assess and document risk controls, including risk associated with new or modified products, services, distribution channels, regulations and/or third-party operations.
  • Provide counsel to business units on risk management issues and supports the evaluation of new product strategies on their impact to MQ risk profile
  • Leads development of analytic models, assessments and/or applications in support of risk management efforts that assess the market and identify risk and gaps in existing or proposed processes.
  • Assess future risk, opportunities and effectiveness and translates results into meaningful solutions to enhance decision making.
  • Applies advanced knowledge to produce advanced analytical material for discussion with cross functional teams to understand complex business objectives and influence solution strategies.
  • Interact with partners, customers, and prospects to assess market trends and customer demand to drive the ideation and development of new capabilities
What We're Looking For
  • 7+ years' experience in Risk operations management, with demonstrated leadership progression and experience. Experience supporting risk and/or compliance related activities in a financial services operating environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in risk management, business, economics, statistics, finance or related field or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with sales, customer support, compliance, partnerships team and other MQ teams.
  • Ability to create a vision and translate it into detailed and prioritized plans
  • Strong communication skills across a variety of audiences and ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Experience working on internal or regulatory remediation efforts related to electronic payments and digital banking.
  • Experience working in the payments industry and familiarity with card programs, money movement and digital banking.
  • Experience working directly with, or supporting Risk Ops teams within payments/banking or working directly with regulators in the US and either Canada, Asia Pacific UK/EU, and in particular customer regulators and banking regulators.
