Your Role

Gensler's Oakland office is seeking a Technical Designer - Job Captain - Labs & Sciences to join our team of design thinkers and doers who specialize in helping to tell stories and create experiences in the context of science and technical spaces. Do you understand science "from the inside" and believe that the planning and design of lab can make a difference? If you enjoy utilizing your technical lab planning expertise to solve complex problems and create effective and well-designed environments, then this role is for you.

What You Will Do

  • Participate in all project phases, including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, construction documents and production
  • Collaborate with design team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies and other vendors to meet overall project objectives
  • Produce graphic presentations, 3D renderings, and construction drawings
  • Utilize hand rendering techniques to communicate design concepts


Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent in education or experience required, laboratory design certification a plus
  • 5-8 years of related project experience
  • Proficiency in modeling using 2D/3D software, such as CAD, Revit, Octane, 3dViz, 3ds MAX, and/or Rhino utilizing V-Ray
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and/or SketchUp
  • Knowledge of relevant building codes and accessibility requirements
  • State licensure and LEED accreditation a plus
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and parametric design software, including Grasshopper, is a plus
