Job description

We are a boutique wealth management firm located in San Francisco. Our clients include high net worth individuals, company retirement plans, foundations and endowments. We are seeking an intelligent, curious Associate Advisor to work with our CEO and Senior Advisor to provide exceptional service to our retirement plan, foundation and endowment clients. The ideal candidate will have:


Knowledge:

  • Required: General experience working with 401k plans, with sufficient retirement plan design, plan conversion, regulation, and recordkeeper monitoring and evaluation expertise is key for the role on this interdisciplinary team. Should also be familiar with 403(b) plans, cash balance and non-ERISA plans and non-qualified deferred comp. plans.
  • Candidate should have some experience with plan documents, compliance testing and plan consulting for clients in the $10 million - $50 million plan size range or larger.
  • Must have strong skills in all Microsoft Office components, especially Excel. Some Morningstar experience a plus.
  • Ideally: Sufficient investment process and at least basic mutual fund research/evaluation experience. Not required, but nice to have: foundation and endowment knowledge and experience.
  • Designations: Certified Pension Consultant (CPC) preferred. Must be willing to take and pass Series 65 exam once hired, if not already held or exempt due to designations.


Activities/responsibilities:

  • Proactively work with Sr. Advisor on firm's institutional client base of retirement plans, 401k and endowment and foundation clients. Anticipate client needs and prepare client and prospect deliverables. Produce, present and brief senior advisor on preliminary analyses and client deliverables a week in advance of meetings to allow time for final refinements.
  • Manage most client analytics and meeting preparation needs, including all meeting deliverables, in coordination with lead advisor, so lead advisor can present timely, accurate, relevant information at meetings.
  • Proactively manage client onboarding processes and deliverables, using and helping to improve firm's checklist, keeping Sr. Advisor in loop.
  • Proactively manage recurring processes and deliverables, using and helping improve checklists.
  • Manage projects for the institutional team, including delegation to other staff, if needed.
  • Depending on experience level, and increasingly over time, help present certain analyses to clients.
  • Depending on experience level, help with internal investment committee process, due diligence process and preliminary analysis.
