Job description

Job Title: Bioinformatics Scientist II
Location: San Rafael, CA
Duration: 12+ months

Description:
* Company's Research & Development group is responsible for everything from research and discovery to post-market clinical development. Research & Development involves all bench and clinical research and the associated groups that support those endeavors. Our teams work on developing first-in-class and best-in-class therapeutics that provide meaningful advances to patients who live with rare diseases. Come join our team and make a meaningful impact on patients' lives.
* Genetics and Genomics are one of the key pillars on all Company programs. The Translational Genomics team within RED is a key partner on Company therapeutic programs at all stages of the pipeline. We are seeking a Scientist to join the computational biology team to support early drug discovery and research efforts at Company.
* The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to or lead diverse efforts such as identification of regulatory and potentially disease-modifying targets as well as molecular characterization of human disease and disease models. To generate and test hypotheses and make decisions on assays and targets, we utilize cutting-edge omics technologies such as single cell RNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, long read RNA-seq, and CUT&RUN. Those data are generated internally as well as through collaborations with leading academic labs in the respective fields. For example, integration of internal data with data describing healthy development and disease helps us to identify regulators that we subsequently test in our functional genomics lab with the goal of identifying new therapeutic interventions.
* This is an opportunity to work with dynamic, cross-functional teams where you can apply your expertise in bioinformatics and satisfy your curiosity in human biology and molecular mechanisms.
Responsibilities
* Develop and apply methods to identify new regulatory mechanisms to target genetic diseases.
* Identify available omics datasets that can be useful to answer therapeutic questions.
* Analyze and integrate omics data to drive disease understanding, disease model characterization, target identification, and molecular characterization in the healthy state.
* Evaluate and develop bioinformatics methods to analyze and integrate omics data and report results. Examples include RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq, long read RNA-seq and CUT&RUN data.
* Collaborate with other members of Translational Genomics to generate therapeutic hypotheses grounded on human genetic evidence.
Qualifications
* PhD or equivalent relevant experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related fields.
* Solid foundation in applied statistics, study design, bioinformatics, and molecular biology.
* Hands-on experience to manage, analyze and interpret large omics datasets.
* In-depth experience with R/Bioconductor packages and bash. Experience in Python and high-performance computing, AWS and Git.
* The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated ability to work in cross-functional teams and being a highly collaborative and active team contributor. #LI-FRESH
