Job description
Thermochem is seeking a highly motivated, skilled mechanical assembly technician, with basic machining and stainless steel welding skills, basic computer literacy, and a clear interest/ability to work with our team to build, test and deliver highly specialized power plant equipment for the geothermal industry.
Summary of the Position
Under general supervision performs mechanical equipment assembly, performs prototype testing and maintenance of products and equipment in support of Thermochem Inc.
· Reads assembly drawings, system schematics, and bills of material to kit parts, build and test mechanical equipment.
· Utilizes commercial instruction manuals and typical product specification sheets to correctly perform tasks including but not limited to: install valves in correct orientation, replace valve and pump seals, properly torque compression fittings and seal NPT threads.
· Safely and methodically performs equipment testing including but not limited to: low pressure leak checks with air (100 psi), high pressure leak checks (5,000 psi) with water or (2,000 psi) gas, pump operation, valve operation, and steam valve operation.
· Basic stainless steel welding including but not limited to assembly layout, welding and weld inspection.
· Basic machining to prepare stainless steel enclosures, modify existing stainless steel parts, or make brackets as required for equipment assembly.
· Basic machining of stainless steel parts on the lathe and drill mill.
· Responsibly executes all work assignments with a focus on safety, quality, responsible creativity, electrical/mechanical aptitude, and follow through.
· Provides sound technical advice, contributes to process development, and demonstrates technical competence and continued improvement with minimal direction.
· Performs other assigned duties and tasks as required.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education/Experience:
· Minimum of 5+ years of experience.
· Minimum AA/AS degree, or a specialized and relevant training/certification, or alternative equivalent.
Knowledge:
· Ability to successfully kit, build, test, troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment.
· Ability to safely and successfully use basic shop equipment, including a mill and lathe, to make and modify parts are required for equipment assembly.
· Ability to read and markup drawings and bills of material to correct mistakes and capture as-built changes to an assembly.
· Ability to safely and successfully layout and weld basic stainless steel assemblies.
· Demonstrated computer literacy skills including ability to access and read word processing documents, spreadsheets, and navigate through a basic file folder structure. Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook e-mail, Excel, and Word.
· Demonstrated ability to comprehend, interpret, and convey detailed technical data.
· Demonstrated excellence in identifying problems and developing solutions.
· Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships within the company and with customers.
Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have good interpersonal skills in order to communicate rapidly and effectively within the organization and to represent the company in a professional manner to clients, suppliers and visitors. Works with a high degree of self-direction and independent judgment. Must be team-oriented, flexible, and able to meet tight deadlines. Works overtime and varying hours, including frequent and extended assignments to remote work sites; frequent travel within the United States and abroad.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 70 lbs. and to push/pull up to 100 lbs; job involves sitting, lifting, bending, climbing, twisting, reaching, walking, standing and repetitive motion; driving of company vehicles and operation of equipment and machinery; occasional international travel through multiple timezones; must adhere to attendance requirements as stated in the policy handbook.
Working Conditions: Exposure to marked change in temperature.
Licenses: Possession of a valid class C motor vehicle operator's license, and willingness to use personal vehicle in the course of employment. Valid passport.
