Principal Responsibilities

• Business - Serve as the primary legal counsel for the company's main business divisions.

• Commercial - Collaborate with procurement division in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements. Negotiate and resolve commercial disputes. Lead complex commercial transactions, including supporting M&A deals.

• Product - Advise product/business teams through the development life cycle on matters relating to compliance, IP and consumer protection issues.

• General Corporate - assist with a wide range of work and projects, as needed, including marketing and privacy/compliance support.

• Manager/Leader - provide guidance and support to other legal staff and business partners.

Essential Functions

• Provides advice and counsel on legal issues impacting the company's operations and business (including those of its subsidiaries).

• Drafts, reviews, advises and negotiates contracts, policies, procedures and other legal documents with a higher degree of complexity.

• Researches, analyzes and advises on proposed and existing legislation and regulations for impact on the company.

• Substantial knowledge of current law and issues within areas of specialty.

• Initiates and leads cross-divisional and enterprise projects. Interacts and influences business to help drive business results.

• Performs special projects (substantive, administrative and practice management) for the legal department, including those involving a higher degree of complexity, business impact or financial or personnel resources.

• Develops and/or conducts training programs for supervisors, managers and/or employees.

• Engages and manages outside counsel within area of responsibility in a cost-effective manner.

Skills

• Experience serving as primary attorney for business lines, including directly advising business stakeholders from both a legal and a business perspective

• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in an organized and effective manner with attention to detail

• Ability to balance multiple priorities while working in an efficient manner

• Strong foundation of project management, change management, and process improvement skills

• Excellent strategic thinking and analytical skills with high-level business judgement

• Driven self-starter who is comfortable operating with ambiguity and learning new disciplines

Education & Experience / Licenses & Certification

• 8+ years' experience advising clients, with a combination of law firm and in-house experience
• J.D. from accredited law school
• California State Bar license in good standing
• BA/BS - Bachelor's degree in related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• MBA from accredited college/university preferred
• Computer skills, MS Office, Google Suite, and online research tools such as WESTLAW

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

Works in an office environment sitting at a desk, table or computer workstation for extended periods of time. May travel by car, plane or other form of transportation to attend business meetings or conferences. Approximately 50-80 percent of the time spent on the job involves the use of a personal computer.
