Job description

Responsibilities: The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring accuracy and timely reporting of financial statements and payroll for the Company's clients. Candidate will engage with clients directly as well as collaborate with management in finding innovative solutions to proactively address their clients' needs. The position will also involve coordinating internal work processes across internal teams and departments addressing operational needs of the company.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads financial statement review in semi-annual formal meetings with Semaphore clients.
  • Responsible for review and preparation, as necessary, of all journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, monthly bank and credit card reconciliation, and variance analysis in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ability to prepare, review and communicate specialized cash flow and management reports, budget variances and analysis, and special projects as assigned.
  • Perform timely review and accurate closing of assigned clients' monthly Profit & Loss statement and Balance Sheet.
  • Review sales tax filing requirements for clients and file related sales tax returns.
  • Review quarterly & annual payroll tax returns.
  • Review and drive the process for annual closing of books, W-2 & 1099 preparation.
  • Conduct internal work audits to ensure compliance with Company's established Standard Operating Procedures and Protocols.
  • Oversight of staff accountants' maintenance of General Ledger, preparation of account reconciliations and analysis, and detailed monthly work paper documentation.
  • Perform routine quality control review of Accounting department's documentation records and file management protocols.
  • Work with leadership to establish, maintain and work within annual client engagement budgets.
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
  • Ability to complete projects within the timeframes and deadlines established.
  • Train and develop staff accountants' technical accounting skills.
  • Research, document, and maintain accounting policies as new accounting issues emerge.
  • Develop and implement process and system improvements, where appropriate, to capture value through improving efficiency, leveraging technology, and reducing waste.
  • Ability to stay informed on industry developments and changes in regulation and understanding of professional standards and apply to financial statement preparation.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, analysis, and reporting of financial data.
  • Experience with implementing new technology and software solutions in the accounting and payroll process.
  • In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP.)
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/ year-end close process.
  • Able to critically analyze situations and solve problems effectively.
  • Well organized with a proven ability to take the lead on projects and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in analyzing complex financial reports and records and preparing summarized executive reports as needed.
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with different levels of employees.
  • Knowledge of Payroll processing and regulatory reporting.
  • Strong understanding of Internal Revenue Code and Tax Regulations.
  • Excellent analytical skills with an attention to detail.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting or Finance. Master's degree -Preferred.
  • Have CPA or are eligible to sit for the CPA exam.
  • 6 years of experience in the accounting field.
  • 4 years recent public accounting experience is required.
  • Advanced Proficiency using Excel, QuickBooks & QuickBooks Online.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The individual will be expected to work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership of his / her work product


  • This position is eligible for a hiring bonus of up to $10,000
  • This is NOT a remote position
