Job Summary

The Denver Metro Mining Team of AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated entry-level civil/geotechnical engineer for employment in our Denver, Colorado office to support our mining projects. This position will involve working on projects to conduct seepage & slope stability modeling in relation to tailings dam design and analysis. Candidates can expect a diverse set of project specific challenges while performing field investigations; instrumentation installation and monitoring; material characterization; seepage, stability, and deformation analyses; dam design; drawings; specifications; reports; and presentations. The mining team within the Water Business Line is responsible for providing engineering and design services in support of multidisciplinary projects, with a focus on tailings dam projects.

With more than 3,200 Water professionals in all major markets throughout the United States and Canada, AECOM's Water business line leverages nearly a century of local, national and international project experience to provide today's municipalities, industries and governments with cost-effective solutions to their Water challenges. Job Summary/Responsibilities:

  • Planning, implanting, and overseeing geotechnical exploration programs including assigning laboratory testing with assistance.
  • Performing material characterization, liquefaction, seepage, slope stability, and settlement analyses for tailings dams.
  • Preparing geotechnical reports, drawings, and specifications for tailings dam projects.
  • Preparing and presenting technical presentations to internal project team.
  • Conduct field observations and site visits.
  • Review geotechnical instrumentation and assist with instrumentation monitoring reports.
Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.

The midpoint of the salary range is $84480.98.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited institution
  • Engineer in Training Certification required or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering from ABET-accredited institution
  • Basic knowledge of industry standard software such as GeoStudio (Slope/W and Seep/W), UTexas4, Grapher, and AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering, specifically slope stability and seepage analyses
  • Field/Construction experience; dam experience a plus
  • Familiarity with design reports, drawings, and specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate proactive problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain organization in a changing environment
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility, and flexibility
  • Must be a resourceful, highly organized professional with attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Effective time-management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
  • Occasional travel to project sites, both local and remote
