Fiber Lab Technician

Greater New London, CT area

Overview:

USPRO is looking for a proven Engineering Technician to work with a client of ours in the New London, Connecticut area. This individual will verify and quantify performance of both new and existing DPC/DAT fiber connectivity products, competitive products, as well as new designs and concepts prior to production.

Employment type: Contract (possible temp-to-perm)

Duration: 6+ months

Responsibilities:

· Conduct R&D testing of existing and new product designs for both internal and external customers providing recommendations to engineering design staff for design improvements.

· Conduct optical/electrical/mechanical agency certification testing.

· Utilization, familiarization, and maintenance of agency (UL, TIA, CSA, IEC, etc.) publications and requirements.

· Support lab maintenance and testing method improvements.

· Perform or coordinate maintenance, calibration, and repair of all R&D lab equipment, and equipment certification.

· Design, construct testers, fixtures, and procedures as required.

· Assist in design concepts, prototyping, and product improvement efforts.

Qualifications:

· Associate's Degree in relevant field or engineering related discipline or equivalent experience.

· Minimum of 2+ years experience in mechanical and/or optical testing environment.

· Test experience in fiber optics and/or structured cabling industry a plus.

· Requires experience with hardware test equipment and tools such as OTDR, insertion loss, return loss, interferometer, mechanical measurement system, coordinate measurement machine, temperature chamber, spectrum analyzer.

· Must have the manual dexterity to handle small parts.

· Experience with CAD modeling and 3D printing a strong plus.

· Must be able work efficiently and safely when testing devices on test systems.

· Must be able to understand, interpret, and follow test standards.

· Ability to use SolidWorks (or equivalent) and Labview a plus.
