Job Description

The Analytics and Modeling -Senior Director role reports to the VP - Single Family Analytics and will be responsible for Models, Analytics, Tools and Data in support of the Capital Markets team. Success in the role will require the ability to forge effective partnerships with key leaders across the Capital Markets and to lead a team dedicated to delivering trusted, timely, relevant and state-of-the-art analytics and tools.

In this position you will lead and manage a highly technical team of ~20 data scientists and financial engineers. You will be responsible for setting direction, aligning priorities and building/growing a team. While experience in R/Python or other programming language is a plus, this is not a role where you are expected to be running the analysis, though you will be expected to understand and guide the analytics and tools that your team is proposing. Rather, you are enabling a highly technical team to reach its full potential by focusing on the right work, articulating the impact, pro-actively and visibly removing obstacles that prevent progress and recognizing/rewarding success.

Most Important Abilities Of The Successful Candidate Are

  • A deep knowledge/understanding of the working of a Capital Markets function that operates within the mortgage finance industry
  • A knowledgeable and credible face of Analytics to the Capital Markets team - someone who could just as easily play a leadership role on the Capital Markets team
  • A demonstrated ability to understand the role of models and analysis in solving practical business problems with significant bottom-line impact

In this compelling leadership position, you are accountable for leading the overall direction of analytical activities, and data infrastructure and database maintenance, as well as planning and directing business unit operational activities with the direction from senior leadership.

Responsibilities

The Single Family - Analytics and Modeling - Senior Director role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities
  • Oversee the business needs for analytic support, testing activities, and quantitative analysis.
  • Review analytic activities and provide insight on testing and modeling techniques.
  • Translate data outputs to customers, business partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Monitor development of the predictive data models and machine learning tools that help fuel Fannie Mae's innovation and impact.
Qualifications

THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM

Minimum Required Experiences
  • 8 years of relevant work experience
Leadership Skills
  • Leadership experience in a Capital Market Role
  • Experience leading analytically technical talent
  • Relationship Management including managing and engaging stakeholders, customers, and vendors, building relationship networks, contracting, etc.
  • Engaging on regulatory matters
  • Working with people with different functional expertise respectfully and cooperatively to work toward a common goal
  • Collective capabilities for leadership, including leading teams, giving feedback, and coaching and mentoring
  • Influencing including negotiating, persuading others, facilitating meetings, and resolving conflict
  • Adept at managing project plans, resources, and people to ensure successful project completion
Technical Skills
  • Direct the work of a unit in applying varied statistical and mathematical tools to analyze the risk of varied financial products, assets, and transactions. Review and critique analysis and suggest alternate analytical approaches or methods.
  • Statistical Programming Experience including coding, debugging, and using relevant programming languages (Python, R, SAS, SQL, etc...)
Functional Skills
  • Experience with Capital Markets and Analytics
  • Experience identifying and selecting strategic options, and identifying resources to meet the defined objectives
  • Skilled in presenting information and/or ideas to an audience in a way that is engaging and easy to understand using graphical representation of information in the form of a charts, diagrams, pictures, and dashboards with programs and tools such as Excel, Tableau, or other BI tools.
Desired Experiences
  • Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or similar Quantitative Subjects.
  • At least 5 years experience with a Capital Markets function
  • At least 5 years experience solving analytically challenging problems
