Job description
The Assistant Director of Engineering is responsible for assisting the Director of Engineering with the maintenance, preventive maintenance and functioning of all property equipment. This position is also responsible for training, reinforcing and coaching staff in ways that integrate the Cheeca culture of guest service. Oversees and directs all maintenance, engineering and security staff.
Job Responsibilities
Guest Management
• Exemplify the level of guest service that is expected of all employees.
• Greet all guests encountered on the property.
• Follow proper procedures for entry into guest rooms.
• Accommodate all guest requests in an accurate and efficient manner and follow up within 15 minutes.
• Handle all guest complaints in a timely manner, maintaining a positive impression with the guest on resolving any complaints. Follow up to ensure complains or problems are resolved and action is taken to avoid recurrence.
• Ensure guest confidentiality and security.
• Coordinate with other departments as needed to resolve problems, minimizing the impact on guests.
Staff Management
• Recruit, interview, hire, train, evaluate and fire staff following resort policies and procedures.
• Evaluate the staffing requirements and prepare work schedules, adhering to budget goals.
• Ensure that sufficient staffing is present to meet the daily business demands.
• Communicate anticipated business demands daily with each employee.
• Assign specific tasks to the staff as they arise.
• Follow up with daily assignments to ensure timely completion.
• Conduct ongoing training with existing staff and ensure that new staff is certified as required.
• Coach employees to reinforce positive behavior and to improve performance as needed.
• Handle all disciplinary counseling as needed according to policy.
• Maintain open and productive relationship with Human Resources.
Property Management
• Monitor and ensure proper working conditions of all resort equipment.
• Coordinate with vendors to train staff and repair equipment.
• Oversee and assist with equipment repairs.
• Ensure all resort employees who have access to golf carts as a part of their jobs are trained in proper vehicle operation and safety.
• Ensure vacant room checks and preventive maintenance checks are done daily.
• Complete random inspections of the hotel and facilities.
• Ensure all supplies are ordered with accurate usage factors and are received in a timely manner.
• Ensure pertinent information related to equipment needs or repairs are documented.
• Ensure payroll is documented and submitted accurately and promptly.
• Turn all paperwork into accounting in a timely manner.
• Conduct performance evaluations. Coach and direct activities to achieve desired performance. Follow up and ensure that the agreed upon action and developmental plans identified during the evaluation process are being put into effect.
• Oversee Fire and Safety training for all staff annually and as needed
Required Training
• Complete with a passing score the following training programs: Onboarding, Leadership Guest Services, Coaching Your Employees and Sexual Harassment Prevention Training.
• Complete training or have current certification for being trained with regards to safe lifting procedures (in room and laundry processing).
• Complete training or have current certification for being trained with regards to hazards (chemical awareness, MSDS, PPE).
• Complete training or have current certification for being trained with regards to specific equipment repairs.
• Complete other training assigned by supervisor.
Operational Safety
• In the event of an emergency, the employee will follow the Emergency Action Plan.
• Teach staff about resort policies regarding loss of master keys, loss/theft incidents, vehicle operational safety (golf carts) and situational awareness in order to prevent possible employee or guest accidents (remove rocks in pathway, signage for spills or wet floors, etc.).
• Comply with resort policies regarding the filing of all accident/incident reports that an employee either witnesses or is involved in. Train staff that accidents/incidents must be reported before the end of the work day to the employee's supervisor.
• Concerns related to EPLI issues (Employment Practices/Liability Insurance), hostile work environments, sexual harassment, etc. should be brought to the attention of the employee's supervisor or the general manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
