Job description

The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA is offering American Red Cross Lifeguard courses. The American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor will be responsible for teaching the American Red Cross lifeguard course according to the standards and requirements required by the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross lifeguard course is a nationally recognized and will provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. The lifeguard course will also prepare participants to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illness until EMS personnel take over.

We are looking for multiple Lifeguard Instructors throughout the Tampa Bay area to support training these valuable courses and skills.

Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Lifeguard Instructor will teach American Red Cross Lifeguard certification courses, recertification courses and/or challenge courses as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Responsible for providing a quality-learning environment for all participants.
* Must have proficient knowledge of course skills, training design and administration of program.
* Ensures classroom space, pool space and required equipment as required by YMCA of USA are available and in good working order for each class.
* Follows and teaches Red Cross certification training designs and course/skill work as required.
* Follows class ratios per training guidelines.
* Works with the Aquatics Director in securing proper class rosters prior to the start of class and communicating with class participants as needed.
* Works with the Aquatics Director to submit and store all required training paperwork upon completion of courses in accordance with Tampa YMCA policies, Red Cross and YMCA of the USA guidelines.

Education/ Experience Required:

* Must be at least 18 years of age.
* Must possess a high school diploma.
* Experience as a certified lifeguard preferred.

Certifications/Trainings Required:

* Must have current and maintain certification as an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor.
* Must have current and maintain certification in a nationally recognized lifeguard course (i.e. ARC, YMCA).
* Must have current and maintain certification in a nationally recognized Basic Life Support or Health Care Provider CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen.
* Maintain other required certifications as stated in the training matrix.
