Chicago, Illinois, United States
Job type: fulltime
Job industry: HR / Recruitment
Job description
Hudson River Trading (HRT) builds custom, high performance hardware to support our global trading infrastructure. Design Engineers craft sophisticated digital logic solutions with nanosecond precision. We use various EDA tools (open source included!) for our development. You'll be part of a team pushing boundaries in low-level computer architecture, tool writing, and the interface between hardware and software.
Working as an FPGA/ASIC Design Engineer at HRT means working on a small but growing team which is integral to ensuring the success of our trading in the future. We are looking for smart hardware engineers with a passion for hardware and figuring out how things work under the hood.
HRT's distributed trading system is on the Pareto frontier of latency and throughput. You'll work with cutting-edge technology and figure out efficient ways to perform on-the-fly transformations of market data and implement mathematical models. You will step into an incredible learning opportunity. You will build a deep knowledge of SystemVerilog, computer architecture, and networking hardware and protocols down to the physical layer, and make a big impact in an extremely fast-paced, real-time environment.
Skills
- Brilliant architecture, design, optimization, and problem solving
- Proficiency in a hardware description language (SystemVerilog a plus)
- Previous experience (academic/internship/self-study) in digital logic design
- Understanding of FPGA and ASIC design flows and tools
- Familiarity with accessing data, modeling performance, and automating tasks in a software programming language
- Reading C++ and Python
- Knowledge of operating systems, system/processor performance, memory hierarchy, and network communication
Profile
- In your spare time you: code, tinker, read, explore, break things, and have an insatiable curiosity for all things hardware related... you'll find like-minded people here.
- You possess a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a related field
- You are capable of working independently as well as part of a team
- You can describe hardware designs at a high level (the abstract interface), low level (step-by-step algorithm/circuit), or anywhere in between
- You can analyze and fix problems quickly
- You really like to work with people who challenge you and make you better at what you do
Hardware Design and Verification at HRT
HRT hires for both design and verification roles. There is often overlap in skills, and both teams work together very closely. Design engineers typically have training in computer architecture and digital logic design, and they are primarily focused on creating hardware in SystemVerilog. Verification engineers typically have training in both digital logic and software engineering, and are primarily focused on building complex modeling and testing environments in Python. If you are interested, you can view our FPGA/ASIC Verification Engineer posting here .
