About the Department
The University of Chicago's Department of Medicine's Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in the Biological Sciences Division is searching for a research technician, whose primary activity will be providing basic technical research support under the direction of the principle investigator and his staff. The appointee will perform small animal husbandry. The appointee will assist with cell culture, fluorescent imaging, and DNA, RNA, and protein isolation. Additionally, they will be required to maintain a high level of dedication to diabetes-related research.
Job Summary
The Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism is looking for a Research Technician to work within the Bell Lab in the Department of Medicine.
Responsibilities
* This job provides basic technical support activities to scientific research projects.
* Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates.
* Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures and interaction with investigators in other laboratories.
* May assist in drafting articles and reports describing research findings.
* Provide technical and administrative support for a research project.
* Analyze and maintain data and/or specimens.
* Interact with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
* Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.
* Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
* Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
* Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
* Bachelor's degree in biomedical research such as molecular biology, biochemistry, endocrinology, or immunology.
Experience:
* Background in cell culture, mouse husbandry and experimentation, RNA and protein isolation, quantitative real-time PCR, western blot techniques, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in research .
