UV-Vis-NIR / Fluorescence Field Applications Scientist
The Field Application Scientist (FAS) will work with Sales Representatives to achieve sales goals by providing technical and application support for UV/VIS/NIR and Fluorescence product lines. These technologies are used across a diverse range of markets, including Engineered Materials, Optics, Food, Pharmaceuticals, and Life Sciences. This position will be based in the Chicago, Illinois area with the Technical Center located in Downers Grove, Illinois. The FAS is the key technological and applications support person for the Sales Representatives and customers in the Midwest/Central United States, providing support by:
-Assembling and delivering technical product presentations (to individual prospects and seminar audiences) in poster or oral technical sessions
-Customer demonstrations: Analyze customer samples, generate professional reports and present results
-Proposing best solutions for customers' analytical requirements
-Assist in training customers and applications implementation
-Provide ongoing feedback to MatChar Product Line Leaders and Product Managers on market needs, emerging applications, Product Line performance and competitive landscape
-Composing or reviewing application notes when necessary
-Attending tradeshows as needed to support sales representatives and/or deliver technical content
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 5+ years' experience with advanced optical spectroscopic characterization techniques, including reflectance and transmittance type measurements within the UV-Vis-NIR spectral ranges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of scatter measurements (e.g. diffuse, specular, BRDF, BSDF), analysis of powders, Fluorescence anisotropy, quantum yield measurements, FRET (and more) would be helpful.
- PhD or Master's with 5+ years of post-academic experience.
- A thorough working knowledge of optical spectroscopy of materials (primarily with UV/VIS/ NIR and Fluorescence spectroscopy - others helpful), including sample preparation requirements
- A strong mix of scientific expertise and customer focus with excellent communication skills.
- Travel requirement can be as much as 50%.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record
- Strong technical communication skills (written and spoken)
