Position Summary

The Technical Product Manager is part of the Product Management team within the Industrial Automation business unit. The role's key responsibility is to ensure the continuous health of the product lines that they are responsible for.


The Electric Actuators product line has immense strategic growth potential, and we can offer you endless opportunities for internal and external advancement. We currently have a healthy customer base who historically know Norgren for our pneumatic and hydraulic products. We are seeking a successful Product Manager to join this exciting innovative segment and help us grow this product family!


Work Location & Schedule: 25150 Governors Hwy, University Park, IL 60484 / Hybrid work schedule


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Drive the P&L Performance and customer experience for the product line(s)
  • Monitor and support improvement of the operational performance of the product line(s) by working with supply chain, demand planning, scheduling/planning, engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Create, manage, and document the entire product life cycle from strategic planning to tactical activities, including products manufactured within and outside of the region.
  • Initiate, maintain and support execution of product rationalization strategy and obsolescence projects.
  • Establish and update product pricing guidance based on competitive product features, support, pricing, and other factors related to the overall competitive position of the market.
  • Analyze returns, win/loss sales, and quoting data relating to the product line to identify opportunities for product offering optimization.
  • Support development and implementation of the long-term product strategy and roadmap for specific product ranges, including coordinating roadmaps with the global Industrial Automation team.
  • Collaborate with engineering on new product development initiatives (including value engineering & value analysis, VAVE) through research and creation of project proposals and participating in engineering reviews and teardowns to identify requirements to address market needs.
  • Provide product and application support and training to both internal and external customers and individuals.
  • Analyze and establish relationships with potential technology partners.
  • Monitor and report on competitor product portfolios including products, features, and technology.
  • Help ensure that the support for the product is in place at the time the product is released and monitor the support to ensure that it remains consistent with the objectives of the business plan.
  • Support Product Marketing Managers, engineering, manufacturing, and site operational teams on product introduction, launch schedule, and market exploitation to ensure maximum penetration of market segment and accomplishment of financial goals and optimum allocation of resources.
  • Support continual Voice of the Customer (VOC) activities to validate market and segmentation understanding and define target segments
  • Build relationships with major accounts, Precision Engineering sector heads, business development managers, regional sales teams, key account managers, regional technical centers, regional and worldwide manufacturing sites for their respective products, private label suppliers, and product manager counterparts both in the US and in other regions of the world.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Expertise required

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Marketing, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years previous sales, engineering or marketing experience. 5+ years of Product Management experience preferred.
  • Domain expertise in pneumatic, electric, or motion control components. 5+ years of experience with electric linear motion products preferred.
  • Understanding and exposure to operations, engineering, distribution and supply chain
  • Proven track record in a metrics focused environment including weekly and monthly quarterly reporting and analysis.
  • Strong ability to engage with people from all departments at all organizational levels
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, able to make fact-based decisions; able to consolidate and analyze enterprise and market trends/issues and integrate that thinking into marketing and business strategies.
  • Decisive and logical at thoroughly evaluating issues
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • A team player and builder, receptive to ideas, willing to learn from others to be better, and help others be better. Shares information and keeps team members and partners informed
  • Demonstrated mastery of Norgren's current markets and strategies.
  • Must be a seasoned professional with vision, personal authority, and deep understanding of the relevant products, market, key players, and applications.


Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to translate intuition, market feelings and conceptual technologies into successful, winning new products.
  • Track record of building relationships, managing projects and coordinating resources and people to successfully implement strategy
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills are needed.


Computers and Technology

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook)
