Objective

Works with interdepartmental engineers / technical colleagues in a team environment to manage key customer accounts for Quality, leading / solving product problems during New Product Launch phase. The Quality Engineer (NPL), under the direction of Customer Quality Group Manager, ensures Quality objectives are achieved during launch phase; and is the main Quality contact for launch activities for both NMOA (U.S.).


Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop strategy to manage specific customer accounts for new products
  • Lead customer quality issue resolution specifically for Quality issues related to launch builds
  • Interacts with customer to satisfy their requirements
  • Understand and incorporate customer specific requirements during launch phase
  • Maintain daily quality (PPM / other KPI targets) and cost (internal / external costs) data for all requirements.
  • Actively engage site production team to drive manufacturing improvements
  • Actively participate in new product development programs
  • Support change management programs
  • Fulfills / Submits all new parts submission (PPAP) requirements
  • Interacts closely with cross-functional team to perform Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) for new product launches and Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) for product and/or process changes.
  • Key member of FMEA Development serving as key member liaison between Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering.
  • Develop control plan and standardize work instructions from prototype to mass production
  • Expertise with ISO 9001 / IATF 16949.
  • Set quality goals and improvement plans
  • Document and utilize lessons learned
  • Lead / Direct customer issues to closure by gathering appropriate teams and leading problem solving using tools, including: 8D, 5P, 5 Whys, Fault Tree Analysis and other documents, per customer


Experience: 2+ years in high volume automotive manufacturing operations.


Education: Bachelor's Degree in technical field (Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering,)


Certifications:

  • IATF 16949/2016 Internal auditor
  • Automotive Industry specific Quality Training Certification(s) the following training courses at time of hire -or - to be included within eighteen months of hire (while supported by Department peers for guidance), as identified by the chart below:


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Quality engineering / manufacturing engineering experience in automated high volume production environment within automotive industry.
  • Expert hands on experience in IATF16949
  • Working knowledge of problem solving techniques (i.e. 5Why/ 8D methodology, Fish Bone diagrams, Is/Is Not analysis).
  • Familiarity with implementation / use of various charts, corrective action programs, simple DOE, and other SPC tools.
  • Knowledge of plating, plastic molding, metal stamping and/or welding is a plus.
  • Limited knowledge of soldering, electronic components and PCB assembly is a plus.
  • Strong PC skills (Microsoft Office, Word and Excel and Access, Minitab, FMEA Pro).
